Airbus Broughton took another step towards a League and Cup double at the expense of a below par performance from Porthmadog in their Huws Gray Cymru Alliance Cup semi-final tie at the Traeth.

A sloppy goal, conceded just six minutes into the game, proved enough to shatter Port’s hopes of a Cup Final appearance this season as they lacked the flair to open up a well-organised defence, despite having plenty of the possession.

“I have no words to describe that feeling after today’s result,” said disappointed Port boss Craig Papirnyk after the defeat.

“We fell well below the standards we set ourselves as a group. We know how much it would have meant to this club and it’s supporters, and we are gutted.”

Ifan Emlyn sent an early sighter over the Airbus bar, but in virtually their first attack of the game, the visitors scored the goal that put them through to the final.

A break down the right saw Brady McGiloway provide a deep cross to the back post; it was played inside, and Oliver Lanceley got the final touch in a goalmouth scramble to open the scoring.

A good move by Porthmadog saw Sion Edwards put Julian Williams away down the left and the cross found Tomos Emlyn well placed 12 yards out, but goalkeeper Dave Roberts got down well to save.

At the other end, Gruff John cleared under pressure from McGilloway, and a minute later Paul Pritchard touched Matt McGinn’s 20 yard free kick over the bar.

Around the half hour, Port’s Mike Sharples had a header cleared off the line, and Julian Williams hit the side-netting, before Tomos Emlyn, cut in from the right, and his angled shot was tipped over.

At the other end Asa Hamilton forced Pritchard into a good save at his near post and with half-time approaching Hamilton made a good turn in the box, but lifted his shot narrowly over the bar.

In the second half, Sion Edwards’ 30 yard effort went narrowly wide, and Gruff John’s 25 yard free kick was diverted for a corner by Roberts at full length.

At the other end, Hamilton fired narrowly over, and had a shot well saved.

But late on for Porthmadog, Rob Evans cut dangerously in from the right and put Gruff John in on goal, but he lifted his shot over the bar - and Airbus held on to set up a final against Holyhead Hotspur.PORTHMADOG: Paul Pritchard, Gruff J Williams, Ceri James (Jay Gibbs 56’), Mike Sharples, josh Banks, Tomos Emlyn, Ifan Emlyn, Iwan Lewis, Shaun Cavanagh 56’ (Rob Evans), Julian Williams, Sion Edwards.
