PORTHMADOG will take on Airbus in the semi-finals of the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance Cup in February, after they produced a dominant performance to beat Conwy Borough 2-0.
They had to wait until the second half injury time, however, before they finally made sure of the victory with a late second goal from Dan Dascalu.
Port had led through Dale Davies, netting his fourth goal in four games on 42 minutes, and there was also the bonus of another strong defensive display to earn their third consecutive clean sheet in a third consecutive win.
Port were at it from the off, with Ryan Taylor crossing for Rob Evans, whose shot was blocked, and when Sion Edwards intercepted a goal kick his 25 yard strike went narrowly over.
Gruff John then met Sion Edwards’ corner with a clean header, which was tipped over with a fine reaction save, as Conwy defended for long spells.
Ryan Taylor burst to the edge of the box and tested keeper Anthony Sarkowski with a fierce shot, and a shot from Shaun Cavanagh took an unfortunate deflection to take it wide .
With half-time approaching, however, Port finally took the lead as Ryan Taylor and Sion Edwards combined down the left and Dale Davies turned in Edwards’ low cross at the near post.
At the start of the second period Sion Edwards’ powerful angled shot was tipped out for a corner, and the pressure continued with a header from Iddon Price from a corner going close.
An Ifan Emlyn cracker also tested Sarkowski, who did well to get down on the ball at the feet of Dale Davies, as well as saving from Iwan Lewis.
In the latter stages, Conwy pushed forward, but apart from a few tense moments the defence looked in control, with Pritchard not too troubled.
Port looked dangerous on the counter-attack and Shaun Cavanagh’s angled shot was pushed on to his post by Sarkowski, and Dan Dascalu headed narrowly wide at the near post.
Comwy’s Dean Seager twice failed to hit the target late on, but in added time Dale Davies turned provider as he found Dascalu in the box, and he held off a challenge to fire home and secure Port’s place the last four.
