PORTHMADOG travel to Latham Park on Saturday after a busy run of competitive fixtures that have tested the squad’s resilience and strength, writes Dylan Elis.

The trip to Newtown comes at an important moment, with Port looking to build on a series of solid and consistent performances in recent weeks.

The season has seen Port compete bravely in the Cymru North, securing results that reflect a team developing quickly.

In their most recent match, they earned a convincing 3–0 victory over Ruthin Town at Y Traeth, with Cai Jones opening the scoring before Luke Baum added two more in a purposeful and attacking display.

That win followed a run of tight games, including the 1–1 draw against Penrhyncoch in the Welsh Cup, where Port went on to win 4-3 on penalties to secure their place in the next round.

Earlier in the month, the team picked up valuable points against Buckley Town (1–1) and Holyhead Hotspur (2–2), as well as strong victories over Rhyl 1879 (1–0) and Denbigh (3–2).

These matches have highlighted several positive aspects of the team’s development: organised defending, an energetic midfield, and forwards capable of turning chances into danger.

Several players across the pitch have been key in creating movement and building momentum.

Port have also shown resilience in responding to setbacks, including the 1–3 home defeat to Caersws, where the team continued to battle hard until the final whistle.

Looking ahead to Newtown, Port are fully aware of the challenge that awaits.

Newtown are an experienced side, comfortable on their 3G surface and known for their ability to control possession and move the ball quickly.

However, Port have already shown they can defend with discipline and break forward sharply when opportunities arise.

Tactical discipline, patience and determination will be essential, but the squad have demonstrated they are ready for the test.

With confidence growing and recent performances showing clear progress, Port make the trip to Latham Park with the intention of delivering a strong statement against one of the league’s more experienced sides.
