PORTHMADOG return to the Welsh Cup tomorrow as they travel to Cae Baker for another important round of the competition.
After last year’s long and memorable cup run, Port are eager to go one step further this time. That journey ended in heartbreaking fashion in the last 16, when Rhyl struck a late goal to snatch victory and end Port’s hopes of reaching the quarter‑finals and possibly beyond. That memory certainly provides extra motivation for the squad as they prepare for this tie.
For the home side, this season has been a difficult one so far. Penrhyncoch have suffered several heavy league defeats, including a 0-1 to Bala Town on Tuesday night, 1–5 loss to Bangor 1876, 0–5 against Buckley Town, and 0–4 against Guilsfield.

Porthmadog arrive at the match after a more solid spell of form.
A strong 3–0 win over Ruthin Town, a 2–2 draw away at Holyhead Hotspur, and a thrilling 3–2 victory over Denbigh have helped build momentum.
Even more importantly, Luke Baum is in outstanding form, scoring three goals in two games and adding energy and creativity to the attack.
Port have also shown their ability to control this fixture earlier in the season, winning 3–1 at Cae Baker on 1 August. That match saw the red and black break down the home side’s defensive block and create clear chances through quick movement and high pressure.
Recent history between the two teams suggests a clear advantage for Port, but Cae Baker is a ground that often produces tight, physical and unpredictable matches.
Port will look to control the game through possession, smart movement and tactical discipline, while Penrhyncoch will aim to turn the tie into a close battle built on resilience.
With the memory of that late goal against Rhyl still fresh, Port are determined to make a strong mark on this year’s competition. This match is an opportunity to build on recent momentum and once again show the character and strength of the squa
