ABERYSTWYTH Town boss Neville Powell is looking for a positive response to their first defeat at Park Avenue under his reign, when they travel to face Cefn Druids on Friday night.
Second half goals from Danny Shaw and Danny Hughes sentenced them to a 2-0 defeat to Llandudno under the floodlights, and Powell admitted that his side had ‘left themselves down.’
The manager said he will be looking for his side to bounce back at the Rock this Friday, against a side that picked up their first point of the season, with a 1-1 draw at Newtown last Friday.
“We are disappointed to be honest,” admitted Powell after the game.
“I know the conditions were bad, but it was the same for both sides. We know that we can do better than that, and there are some disappointed lads in the dressing room right now.
“In playing conditions like that, it’s vitally important to get a goal when you’ve got the elements with you. We went in at 0-0 without them having caused us any real problems.
“We started the second half quite well, until they got their goal, and I thought that we struggled after that. Llandudno are an experienced side and we struggled to break them down. But overall we can do better than that.
“We were expected to do well in front of the fans, and haven’t done that. We now go to Cefn Druids and need to put in a better performance.
“We’ve got to make sure we work hard in training and be prepared for next week. They are a big strong side and are a streetwise team as well.
“We put in a spirited performance in the opening game against Barry, but the lads let themselves down today.”
Geoff Kellaway could be pushing for a starting position after stepping off the bench against Llandudno, along with Joe Phillips and Malcolm Melvin, with Joe Culshaw, Jack Rimmer and Harri Horwood being unused subs.
Meanwhile Aberystwyth’s Under-19s ended their pre-season with an encouraging 2-2 draw against a good young Shrewsbury Town squad.

In other news Daniel Alfei has joined League Two club Yeovil on a permanent basis, after leaving Aber at the end of last season, and Phil Baker, who had a spell at Aber on loan from TNS, has this week joined Warrington in the Evo-Stik Premier Division.
