The father of Aberystwyth footballer Rhys Norrington-Davies has spoken of his pride after Wales were promoted to UEFA’s Nations League Group A.

Wales only needed a point against Finland in their final group match last night but goals from Harry Wilson, Dan James and substitute Kieffer Moore ensured Wales beat 10-man Finland and finished top of their group, meaning they will compete in League A in the next edition of the Nations League.

More importantly, the result means they are likely to have a two-leg play-off – if required – to reach Qatar 2022 if they do not qualify directly from their group.

Norrington-Davies, who is making strides with Championship side Luton Town this season on loan from Premier League outfit Sheffield United, impressed down the left in the wing back role at the Cardiff City stadium with a number of strong runs and deliveries into the box while always offering an outlet to retain possession.

Rhys’ father Patrick said: “l have had many proud moments following and supporting Rhys in his journey but tonight l can honestly say was one of the proudest moments l have had.

“Wales were composed and in charge.

“All eleven played as one combined unit and in my humble, biased opinion, Rhys played a very big part in tonight’s comprehensive victory for Wales.

“As ever, the messages of support and congratulations from his family and friends from Aberystywth and Ceredigion have been overwhelming.

“A significant milestone was reached tonight for both Wales football and Rhys and we are all hugely proud of all he has achieved.”
