PWLLHELI stretched their winning run to three matches by disposing of Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one visitors Glan Conwy 5-2 - and the margin could have been a lot more.
The highlight came on 89 minutes with an 75-yard strike from goalkeeper Jiri Kobr, whose huge clearance bounced over counterpart Aaron Peel.
Slovakian Kobr, who has become a Pwllheli favourite in recent times, has made the goalsheet four times by now, but this was his first goal locally.
Pwllheli had built a 2-0 lead in the first quarter, thanks to Kyle Goodfellow netting on seven minutes and Mark Jones on 22, following assists by Lukacs Baltovic and Tomos Jones.
Glan Conwy, who are no push-overs despite being bottom, battled back to 2-2, with a double blast near half-time, with Cai Moore converting a penalty kick on 40 and Tom Paddock on 44.
Pwllheli took charge in the second half, after Mark Jones had restored the lead on 50 minutes, but several near-misses were rued before Rhodri Scott got the fourth goal on 87 minutes, followed by Kobr’s stunning strike.
Second-placed Penrhyndeudraeth’s title hopes suffered a body blow when they dropped points in a lacklustre 1-1 home draw with Nantlle Vale.
Having beaten their Penygroes rivals twice, in the league and Cookson Cup, Andrew Jones’s hosts had targeted the hat-trick, but being short of four regular players became a factor.
The first half produced Nantlle’s goal from Rhys Jones on 28 minutes, while Penrhyn’s efforts saw a Carwyn Price effort that went just wide.
Price did find Vale’s target with the equaliser on 65 minutes, heading home a left-wing cross by recent signing Neil Thomas, from Llanllyfni, and a former Welsh Premier regular.
In the concluding quarter, both sides had the occasional chance to tip the balance, but the finishing was not good enough and the dour deadlock was confirmed by the final whistle.
St Asaph City belied their third-from-bottom plight by putting an end to Greenfield’s recent run of successes by beating them 1-0, thanks to Casey Faulkner’s only goal on 16 minutes.DIVISION TWOBLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs’ poor run continued in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two with a 4-1 defeat on Anglesey against Cemaes Bay.Man of the match Mathew O’Hara scored a hat-trick, with his first half goals on 15 and 37 minutes earning 2-0 lead for the home side at the interval.
