PWLLHELI appear to be developing their Recreation Ground base into a real fortress, having defeated Welsh Alliance division one opposition St Asaph City 2-1, to notch their fourth straight home win.

End-to-end exchanges brought pressure and near-misses by both teams in the opening quarter, with Pwllheli’s Jiri Kober saving from St Asaph’s Jake Walker and counterpart Luke Jones denying Ifan Gwilym after a run from his own half.

Pwllheli made the breakthrough goal on 26 minutes, when Tomos Jones’ 25-yard curling right-footed effort from way out on the left sailed over Abergele’s keeper.

The second home goal was gained on 40 minutes, by Rhodri Scott, who took a short sideways free-kick from Tomos Jones to drill a low drive into the net.

Both sides maintained their high standards of play in the second half, but it was not until the 90th minute that St Asaph replied with Alistair Parsonage’s header.

Meanwhile Penrhyndeudraeth once again demonstrated their title potential, in third place just three points adrift, with a very effective 3-0 triumph at Abergele Town, for their third straight away win.

Impressing with their work rate, possession and passing play, Penrhyn gained an overdue deserved lead on 27 minutes through Huw Quaeck, who won a one-on-one with home keeper Stuart Roberts.

After the change-around, Penrhyn saw Carwyn Price’s goal-bound header tipped over the crossbar, and home keeper Roberts also denied Tom Smith with his legs.

Penrhyn’s decisive extra goals were secured in the closing quarter, from Price on 70 minutes, prodding the ball over the line following a corner, and from Steve Jones on 80, with a volley, after a short corner.

Barmouth and Dyffryn United are precariously placed in the bottom two after a 6-0 beating at Llandudno Junction, where they conceded after just three minutes.

Minus key players Rob Murfet, who was unavailable, and the suspended Adam Morris, Barmouth were very much second best during the first half of this match, when they trailed by four clear goals.

Junction’s Merrick Knight caught the eye by achieving a hat-trick, firstly with that early goal and others on 20 and 36 minutes, with Brian Roberts also firing past Barmouth’s Adam Walters on 28.

Junction’s fifth goal three minutes into the second half, from Lee Ellis, added more damage to the visitors, who then got back into contention, with Carwyn Jones and Elwyn Edwards performing well.

Shane Jones cursed his luck over two near misses for the away side, before Junction’s Dean Seager completed the half-dozen rout with a goal on 77 minutes.

A change took place at the top of the Welsh Alliance division one table as Trearddur Bay United restored in pole position, edging out Glantraeth, who had scaled the summit the previous weekend.

Trearddur Bay were convincing in a 4-0 show against the winless bottom outfit Glan Conwy, scoring twice in each half, through Dale Murphy on 10 minutes, Curt Williams on 24, an own-goal on 77 and then Jordan Murphy on 84 minutes.

Glantraeth dropped valuable points when held in a 1-1 draw at fifth-placed Llandyrnog United, the goals coming from the hosts’ Shaun Davies on 38 minutes and the visitors’ Harry Gallioti on 77.

Improving Llanrwst United impressed in a 4-1 performance against Llanberis at their own Ffordd Padarn ground, hitting goals through Josh Francis on four and 31 minutes, Aaron Hughes on 38 and Matthew Mullender on 38. Gethin Jones had scored an equaliser after 27 minutes.DIVISION TWOBLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs had to settle for a 1-1 draw at bottom two rivals Llanfairpwll, where a late equaliser denied them all three points in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two.

The Amateurs started for the first time with a 3-5-2 formation, with Daniel Pritchard and Joe Dukes effective on the wings, and they went close early as Bryn Humphreys and Rhodri Pugh saw their efforts go inches wide of the goal.

The deadlock was broken on 35 minutes when a cross from youngster Cai Henshaw was met by Iwan Griffiths, who neatly stroked the ball into the net.

After the break, Iwan Griffiths missed a golden chance to double the lead, and the visitors brought on Elgan Hughes for his first appearance for the club, having just celebrated his 16th birthday.

They were just 10 minutes away from securing the points when the home side, having brought on their subs, levelled matters courtesy of a Henry Evans goal.

The home side threw everything at the Amateurs, with Gethin Jones making a fine save to keep the scores level - but on balance of play the Amateurs should have won this match, with Cai Hughes being named as their man of the match.

Leaders Penmaenmawr Phoenix had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw at home against Gaerwen, with all the goals being scored in the first half.

Dylan Williams opened the scoring for the visitors on 26 minutes, and they then forced an own goal on 37, but Phoenix hit back before half-time through Tom Prince on 39 and Dan Williams on 43.

Melinden also settled for a 2-2 draw at Y Felinheli as goals from Luke Ashley on 10 and 40 minutes were cancelled out by goals from Ifan Ellis on 35 minutes and Iwan Owen on 68 minutes.

Mochdre Sports won 4-1 at Amlwch Town, courtesy of goals from Jordan Phillips, with a sixth minute penalty, Zac Gidlow on 16 and Darren Lander with a brace of goals on 38 and 55 minutes. Luke McGivern replied on 53.

Cemaes Bay beat Pentraeth 3-1, with goals from Steven Whittaker on 20 and 51 minutes and Matthew O’ Hara on 28. Reece Roberts scored a late reply on 87.
