TWO extra-time goals clinched Pwllheli a 3-1 Welsh Cup win over Llangefni, to secure Barry Evans’ team a trip to face Gaerwen in the second qualifying round.
Both sides had scored in the first half of normal time, but the crucial goals that swung the pendulum came from Ifan Gwilym on 102 minutes and Lukacs Baltovic, killing off Llangefni finally on 118.
Goals from Pwllheli’s Terry Ogilvey on 10 minutes and Llangefni’s Matthew Jones on 14 had seen the sides all square.
Barmouth and Dyffryn United secured their Welsh Cup early passage thanks to Shane Jones’ superb solo goal on 36 minutes that saw off Llanfairpwll in a 1-0 win.
Jones embarked on a piercing solo run along the left-wing, cut inside and drove a winning 15-yarder past keeper Ben Heald, who is back with the Anglesey club for a second spell, and was man-of-the-match.
Carl Ryan’s Wern Mynach hosts were the controlling force almost throughout and created chances in double figures, but Shane Jones, George Sutherns, Dave Harding and Ieuan Brooks all missed out.
Llanfairpwll rallied to threaten Barmouth in the last 10 minutes, but the home defence stood firm to ensure that nothing got to stand-in keeper Stuart Pilling.
Penrhyndeudraeth produced a storming finish, but it came too late to prevent a 3-2 defeat against Bodedern Athletic, last season’s Gwynedd League champions.
Trailing by three clear goals towards the end, Huw Quaeck netted on 85 minutes and again on 88, but time then ran out.
Penrhyn had been left with a mountain to climb after goals scored by Steve Whittaker on 35 minutes, followed by Casey Boylan on 81 and Myles Jones on 83.
Penrhyn hit the woodwork three times, with Iwan Thomas twice and Richard Jones narrowly missing out on scoring.
Blaenau Ffestiniog were trounced 12-1 by Llandyrnog United at Cae Clyd, where Mark Roberts netted seven of his side’s goals.
Dan Porter also netted twice for the visitors, with goals from Barry Holmes, Sam Lewis and Paul Wise.
For the hosts, David Copsey scored twice and Kerion Ellis also netted, having scored in his side’s first three games this season.
Llanystumdwy’s Welsh Cup hopes were ended in a crushing 5-1 defeat by Nantlle Vale at Maes Dulyn ground, where the visitors only managed an own-goal.
Aled Jones’s team found themselves two goals down by half-time, after goals by Rob Owen on 27 and Simon Kay on 40.
Kay converted a penalty on 52 minutes to compound Llanystumdwy’s woes, before the own-goal four minutes later.
Then, on the hour, the dominant hosts collected a fourth goal from James Phillips, and it was all over when Rhys Williams made the result more convincing with one more on target on 85 minutes.
Waunfawr, another Gwynedd League side, lost 6-4 to Llanrwst United in extra-time, after being level at 3-3 at full-time.
The more experienced Roosters found extra strength in the additional half-hour to score their goals through Leighton Griffiths, Morgan Owen and Tom Casey.
Waunfawr’s marksmen were Dylan Hughes on 25 minutes, Tomos Owen on 43, Hughes on 61 and Rhodri Owen on 112, whereas Llanrwst’s goals in ordinary time came from Morgan Owen on 15, Callum Parry on 37 and Aaron Hughes on 70.
Cemaes Bay lost to Llannefydd 5-0, Holyhead Town were beaten 4-3 by Gaerwen, Greenfield went out at Lex Glyndwr 2-1, Llandudno Albion won at Llanberis 3-2, St Asaph City lost to Llay Welfare 2-1 and Aberffraw won at Trearddur Bay 3-1.
