During normal time, Pwllheli had gone close to scoring through Mark Jones and Tomos Jones early on and John Gwynfor Jones and Rhodri Scott both hit the woodwork near the end.

Penrhyndeudraeth’s fine pedigree in the FAW Trophy competition, as finalists and semi-finalists in the last two seasons, counted for nothing as they were dumped out of the competition against lowly Llanrwst United.

Callum Parry’s 10-yard drive for the Roosters on 80 minutes squirmed through Rob Watson’s legs, following a right-wing attack for the only gol.

Penrhyn’s Huw Quaeck had seen a shot blocked on the goal line, and Richard Jones also scooped a close range chance over the bar at the end.

BARMOUTH and Dyffryn United’s third straight defeat meant an early exit from the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance’s Cookson Cup, as hosts Llanberis proved to be good value for a 4-1 win.

It was 1-1 at half time, after rival goals by Gwyn Jones for the hosts on 11 minutes and Rob Murfet’s reply on 15.

The real damage was suffered by Barmouth in seven minutes midway in the second period, when they conceded an own goal on 59 and then last season’s cup finalists surged further ahead through Llion Jones scoring on the hour, and Gwyn Jones again on 66.

Holders Glantraeth will stage a crunch local derby with Llangefni Town in the Cookson’s second round, with the other last-eight ties being Llanberis v Pwllheli, Nantlle Vale v Penrhyndeudraeth and St Asaph City v Llanrug United.

Welsh Alliance division one points were booked by Glantraeth at Nantlle Vale’s expense with a 2-0 home win, with Marvin Pritchard scoring on four minutes and Corrig McGonigle on 32.
