PWLLHELI recovered from being a goal down to make progress in the Cookson Cup with a 2-1 home win over Llandudno Junction last weekend.

Pwllheli fell a goal behind on 32 minutes to Junction’s Tom C Williams, heading in Sam Sinkinson’s free-kick.

Mark Jones had a 15-yarder saved by Gwydion Owen and Junction’s Joel Hewitt was denied by Jiri Kober.

Aaron Boyle also steered a header just over for the visitors, but close to the interval, Mark Jones threatened for Pwllheli, only for keeper Owen to block with his feet.

The equaliser arrived on 47 minutes when Rhodri Scott took Tomos Jones’ assist to sweep into the net.

Tomos Jones and Mark Jones linked up for Pwllheli’s second goal from Iwan Gwilym on 62 minutes and the third goal by Mark Jones on 88 was the best of the lot.

Pwllheli were under heavy pressure when Jones burst from his own half and ran the length of the pitch to net from the edge of the box.

Junction replied through Lee Ellis on 90-plus three minutes, but it was too late to detract from Pwllheli’s fine performance and result.

Penrhyndeudraeth also achieved progress by beating Glan Conwy 3-0, as two goals from Meilir Williams early on and a third by David Copsey near the end determined the outcome.

Williams hit the opener on seven minutes when he got the better of keeper Aaron Peel in a one-on-one contest.

Williams added a second on 12 minutes, and Tom Smith also went close twice, whilst Iwan Thomas had a header cleared off the line.

Keeper Peel also tipped the ball over the bar from Iwan Lane’s 25-yard strike.

Penrhyn wrapped up the win with a third goal by Copsey a minute from time as Meilir Williams crossed for a tap-in from Copsey.
