PWLLHELI’s late bid to secure one of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two promotions places was frustrated as their scheduled match at third-from-top Llannefydd was called off due to high winds.

On Thursday night, Pwllheli had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Gaerwen, with Mark Jones cancelling out a goal from Darren Lewthwaite for the visitors.

Three days earlier, Pwllheli had lost 4-1 away at Holyhead Town, who took the points with goals from Tristan Hughes, Luke Roberts, Asa Thomas and Ryan Lees, with Tomos Jones netting the reply.

Pwllheli must now win their remaining four games and significantly boost their goal difference to overhaul Glan Conwy, who currently occupy second position.

Leaders Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs, having completed their fixtures, are still one point clear Glan Conwy at the top, and are guaranteed a top two finish.

Glan Conwy meanwhile need a draw from their last game against Pwllheli on 11 May to secure the division two title.

In division one, Meilir Williams hit another hat-trick as Penrhyndeudraeth brought down the curtain with a 5-3 win against Nantlle Vale at Maes-y-Parc.

Gareth Piercey’s hosts got off to a dream start, with Williams scoring twice in the opening 10 minutes, and although Vale’s Rhys Williams clawed one back on 31 minutes, strikes at the other end by Huw Quaeck on 37 minutes and Steve Jones on 39 stretched the lead to 4-1.

A penalty reply by Nantlle’s Rhys Williams on 41 minutes set up the prospect of an interesting second half, and the visitors’ Rob Daniels also netted on 67.

But it was left to scoring ace Meilir Williams to clinch the last match points for Penrhyn with his hat-trick goal on 89.

Llangefni Town edged closer to the division one title with a 1-1 draw at Llanrwst United, where Craig Roberts’ opener on 28 minutes was cancelled out by Llanrwst’s Callum Parry on the hour.

Second-placed Bodedern Athletic won 4-1 at Mynydd Llandygai, courtesy of goals from Shaun Jenkins on seven minutes, Aden Clarke on 50, Callum McMinimee on 65 and Jenkins again on 83. Andy Barker replied on 25 minutes.

Llandudno Albion, in third place but now out of the title race, were held 1-1 at home by Llanrug United, with Dave Maddox’s goal after 30 minutes cancelled out by David Noel Williams on 50.
