JD Welsh Cup
TWO hat-tricks secured Aberystwyth’s safe passage to the next round of the JD Welsh Cup in an emphatic 9-0 victory against spirited visitors Aber Valley on Saturday.
After struggling for goals in recent games despite producing hugely positive performances, the Seasiders found their goalscoring rhythm again at Park Avenue with Harry Franklin and Owain Jones netting three times and Raul Correia, Mathew Jones and Rhys Davies also on the score sheet.
Aber boss Antonio Corbisiero has been encouraged by his players’ efforts this season which have not been fully rewarded with points on the board.
He said: “It was a nervy start from us and they had a big chance at the beginning of the game but I think we approached it right and we did the right things and we got the result that we needed.
“It’s been tough for us not scoring a goal in three games but getting that first goal it settled our nerves.
“The atmosphere here was electric to be fair to them so it quietened them down a little bit and then I think the fitness from the boys took over as well.
“There were some great finishes all round and some really good moves and it’s always nice to keep a clean sheet.”
Looking ahead to Saturday’s home game against Cardiff Met he added: “We look at every game as one that we can win.
“We’ve competed with Connah’s Quay, with Flint and with Bala and we’ve gone toe to toe with all of them so it’s a game that we’re looking to win.”
