RHAYADER Town took full advantage of the inactivity of title rivals Berriew to move three points clear at the top of the Spar Mid Wales League division one with a 2-0 win at Tywyn/Bryncrug.
The Red Kites missed several gilt-edged chances, especially from set-pieces, and Ifan Burrell had two good chances which he was unable to capitalise on after going through on goal.
Rhys Thomas broke the deadlock in the first 10 minutes to ease the visitors’ nerves, and five minutes later Ifan Burrell headed home from close range after a good solo run by Rhys Thomas.
Rhayader had several chances to increase the lead, but full credit to Tywyn, who never gave up and kept the visitors on their toes for the whole game.
Their win lifted the Red Kites three points clear of title rivals Berriew, who have a game in hand after their scheduled match at Carno was postponed.
Carno remain in third place, 11 points adrift, but with three games in hand.
