NEWCASTLE Emlyn put paid to any thoughts of a giant killing act by Penparcau Reserves in the Emrys Morgan Cup as a fine all-round showing earned them a 5-0 win over the Cambrian Tyres League division two leaders.

Billed as one of the more intriguing matches of the round, with both teams in top form, it never lived up to expectations as the more experienced Costcutter Ceredigion League side proved to be just too good on the day.

Outstanding for the Reds was front-runner Jake Kelly, who bagged a fine hat-trick to cap a successful afternoon for the south Ceredigion club, who had won this prestigious trophy two years ago.

Manager Owain Thomas has seen his team win seven on the bounce after an indifferent start, and the Reds could take some stopping in this competition. Also on target for Emlyn were young winger Cory Davies and midfielder Steve Thomas.

Lampeter Town meanwhile cruised through into the quarter-finals with a 4-0 win, despite fielding a weakened side against Llanilar.

Manager Jonyon Evans was missing four regulars, but his re-shaped team gelled quickly and went ahead when experienced front runner Luke Lovell netted, before adding a second before the interval.

Further goals followed, with Jason Jones and Terry Witts, from the penalty spot, netting to kill the game off.

Former winners Llandysul were knocked out 2-1 by neighbours Felinfach, thanks to a winning goal from Ben McEvoy, whilst Dewi Stars and Cardigan Town were both handed walkovers as Aberdyfi and Rhayader Reserves conceded their ties.

Bargod Rangers bowed out with a 4-2 loss to Montgomeryshire Amateur League side Guilsfield Reserves, with Rhydian Davies and Gethin Rees netting replies.

Tregaron Turfs’ delayed third round tie against Llanfyllin was cancelled due to their opponents failing to raise a side, and they will now take on local derby rivals Bont in the fourth round.

St Dogmaels will also play their fourth round tie with Brecon Corries this weekend.

Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League

CORRIS United are through to the second round of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League Cup after they notched a well-deserved 4-0 win over fellow division two side Aberystwyth University Thirds.

Owain Kelly scored two goals, with Jake Hinge and Alex Roberts also getting on the scoresheet in a solid display by the hosts, for whom Michael Blackwell caught the eye as the man of the match.

A brace from Trevor Jenkins and a Ben Thomas goal saw Bont go through to the next round with a 3-0 win over spirited second division side Borth United Reserves.

Meanwhile the scheduled tie between Bow Street Reserves and Padarn United Reserves was postponed, because of an unplayable pitch.

Padarn United’s first team moved up to fourth place in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League division one with a 3-0 win over Aberystwyth University Reserves.

Ian Lee scored twice, with Tommy Wilson also on the scoresheet for Padarn, who are boosted by the return of last season’s captain Daniel Parry from Borth United.

Dolgellau Reserves moved to within three points of Penparcau Reserves at the top of division two, with two games in hand, courtesy of a 6-4 win at Llanilar Reserves.

Mike Worsell scored a hat-trick for the Meirionnydd men, with Daniel Thomas netting twice and Kieran Jones once, whilst Llanilar Reserves remained in contention with goals from Osian Jones, with a brace, Dylan Evans and Guto Roberts.
