ABERYSTWYTH Town have moved to strengthen their defensive options by signing 27 year-old centre half Craig Rogers on transfer deadline day.
Rogers joins the Seasiders after a spell playing with Norwegian Club Bergsoy-Idrettslag, and will provide cover following the departures of Jonny Spittle to Connah’s Quay and John McKenna to New Zealand.
Chester-born Rogers, who at 6 foot 3 inches will dominate any defence, and has played 17 matches for the Norwegian side this season, scoring twice and making no fewer than 10 assists.
He was previously with Warrington Town during their famous FA Cup run of 2014, and has also represented Denbigh Town, Icelandic side Dalvik/Reynir, and was with Jacksonville United while studying at Oral Roberts University in America.
"Craig made an excellent impression in his first training session last night and everyone at Aberystwyth Town FC welcome him to the Club," said a club statement. "He will wear squad number four for the Black and Greens."
The Seasiders had earlier also boosted his squad during the January transfer window by signing Damien Allen from Bangor City, and Tom Owens and Kurt Sherlock from Radcliffe.
Midfielder Allen, 31, made his debut for the Seasiders in their Welsh Cup tie at Cardiff Met last weekend, after linking back up with former manager Powell. He had signed for Bangor seven seasons ago, where he became captain, making 151 appearances for the Citizens.
The Cheadle-born player came through Stockport County’s Youth system, and made 57 League appearances for the Hatters, before a loan spell at Royal Antwerp in Belgium. He played 20 times for Morecambe, before joining Bangor, after spells with Halifax, Bury and Colwyn Bay.
Meanwhile striker Kurt Sherlock followed January signing Tom Owens in joining the club from Radcliffe.
Liverpudlian Sherlock, aged 26, made five appearances for the Evo-Stick side earlier in the season, scoring four goals, and he has previously played for Formby, Bootle, Runcorn Linnets, Stalybridge and Marine.
Midfielder Owens, who made his debut against Connah’s Quay, was Powell’s first signing of 2018.
The 26 year-old hails from Liverpool, scored three goals from nine appearances for Radcliffe in 2017/8, and also gained three Man of the Match nominations.
He has previously played with Preston North End and FC London, before moving to America, where he played for Michigan Bucks. Owens currently coaches with Liverpool FC International Academy, and has a Master of Communications from Quincy University.
Meanwhile the Seasiders have also signed goalkeeper Adam Walters from Aberystwyth University as cover for number one Chris Mullock. Walters has previously been with York City, Selby Town, Barmouth and Dyffryn Utd and the University side..
