TWO of the leading contenders for honours in the Costcuter Ceredigion League this season were forced to come from behind, before they managed to salvage a result on the opening day.
Reigning champions St Dogmaels were a goal down in their local derby match at the King George after Dylan Davies had put the Magpies ahead - but a late equaliser from Mike Diggle saved the day.
Newcastle Emlyn were two goals down away at Llanboidy, but the hero of the hour Jake Kelly bagged a late winner with a far post header to complete his hat-trick and a 3-2 win for the visiting team.

The local derby affair between Felinfach and Lampeter ended at 1-1 with Owain Thomas netting for the Milkmen, and Jason Jones bagging a goal for the Town. Crannog were expecting a tricky encounter at Aberporth, but they eventually came through for a comfortable 6-1 win.
Maesglas claimed local bragging rights in their derby at St Dogmaels Reserves in the Costcutter Ceredigion League division two as they emerged winners by 5-0.
Rhodri George led the way with a brace and Johnny Rees, Tom Gardiner and Grant Colmer provided the other goals as the Cardigan side eased to a solid win.
There was also a comfortable win for New Quay as they defeated Crannog Reserves by 4-1, with William Davies netting a hat trick for the visiting team. Jack Chetwynd was also on target for the Seasiders, whilst Jake Shakespeare scored the reply for Crannog Reserves.
Aberaeron Reserves opened their campaign with a solid win 3-0 at Ffostrasol Reserves.
Newly-formed Crymych, who are subject to an appeal to the FAW, played a friendly match at local rivals Cardigan Reserves on Thursday, and they showed their potential with a 6-1 win, with Gethin Evans leading the way with a hat-trick.
Sion Vaughan and Steffan James, with a penalty, also netted for the Preseli men.
