ST DOGMAELS cruised through into the third round of the Cwpan Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies as they notched a 6-1 win over Padarn United on a heavy School Field.
The Costcutter Ceredigion League leaders stroked the ball around confidently, with the midfield combination of Adam Williams and Rhys Jones dominating the play. Rhys Jones opened the scoring from the penalty spot, and a second goal soon followed when Louis Harding tapped in.
The visitors saw a good chance saved by the legs of keeper Carl Woodbridge, but Harding added a third goal when he was put through by a superb pass from midfielder Williams, and he rounded the keeper and slotted home.
Another pin-point pass by the influential Williams was then pounced on by Daniel Jones to put the Saints 4-0 up.
Padarn never gave up the fight, and they were unlucky not to score just before the break when they hit the bar. Ian Lee did eventually find the target on the hour, but the Saints put the game to bed as Rhys Jones volleyed in Chris Morgan’s cross.
Jones then completed his hat-trick when the man of the match dribbled through from deep to pick his spot.
It was an excellent game considering the awful conditions, with both teams always looking to play positive football - but the finishing of the Greens was far superior.
They will now face Ffostrasol in the quarter-finals on 8 February, whilst in the other ties Crannog entertain Aberporth, Lampeter face Newcastle Emlyn or Maesglas, and Tregaron will host Bont or Cardigan.
• In the only game played in the Costcutter Ceredigion League division one, Ffostrasol enjoyed a welcome 4-2 win over Felinfach, with front runner Dafydd Phillips leading the way with a brace of goals.
Also on target for the Wanderers were Gwynfor Bowen and Carwyn Griffiths, whilst the Milkmen found the net though Rhys Jon James and Kieron Boyes.
The matches between Aberporth and Dewi Stars, and Llandysul and Llanboidy were both postponed last weekend, as was the League Cup quarter-final tie between Crannog and Cardigan.
This weekend’s Costcuter Ceredigion League division one action will see Aberporth entertain Lampeter, whilst Crannog host Felinfach, Ffostrasol welcome Llanboidy, Llandysul take on St Dogmaels and Newcastle Emlyn entertain Dewi Stars.
