MACHYNLLETH slipped to their second defeat in the MMP Mid Wales League division two as they went down 3-0 against hosts Hay St Mary’s last weekend.
A good start by the Saints saw Jack Biggs head just wide from a Brendan Hackett corner, as well as firing just over, but the breakthrough came in the 40th minute.
Tom James won a ball in the middle and passed to Hackett, who skipped through a couple of challenges, before passing to Biggs - who turned and hit a powerful shot past the replacement Mach keeper.
The Saints stepped up in the second half and dominated possession, with Brendan Hackett scoring a trademark free-kick from 30 yards for a 2-0 lead on the hour.
The points were secured when striker Tom Landon chased a lost cause, which caused panic in the Mach defence and resulted in an own goal after 73 minutes.
Honours ended even in Borth United’s first away game of the season, in a 1-1 draw with Dyffryn Banw at Llangadfan.
Banw took a shock lead on four minutes when a long kick from their goalkeeper saw Geraint Roberts get the better of the bouncing ball, and Borth keeper Ben Willis could only palm the ball into his net.
The hosts, who had started the match with 10 players, were boosted by the addition of 42 year-old Huw Tudor on the half-hour, straight from a family holiday in Crete, and their defence kept things tight to maintain a 1-0 lead at the break.
Borth held the upper hand as the second half progressed and, but for some wayward finishing, would surely have levelled the scores, but Banw defended well.
As the match went into its last 10 minutes, Borth’s pressure finally paid off, however, as Dafydd Evans was brought down in the penalty area and Ryan Davies coolly slotted home the spot kick.
With only seconds remaining Borth almost snatched a last-gasp winner as Ryan Davies unleashed a 25 yard shot, only to see the ball rebound to safety off the bar.
Elsewhere, Four Crosses made it three wins from three games with a 3-2 win over Brecon Northcote, courtesy of goals from Gareth Jones Jamie Evans and Kyle Wilson, with a deflected winner late on.
For Brecon, veteran Jason Keddle had scored with an overhead kick, and Jack Evans also hit the net with a direct free kick, a few yards in from the corner flag.
Luke Evans scored four goals as Waterloo Rovers beat Presteigne 6-0 away from home, with Charlie Proctor and Keiran Owen also scoring for the Welshpool side.
Tom Evans scored a hat-trick for Montgomery Town as they comfortably beat Newbridge 6-0, with Scott Williams also scoring twice, and Rob Hartshorn once.
Elsewhere Rhayader Town were left frustrated when their scheduled league fixture was postponed, as opponents Dolgellau were unable to field a side.
