ABERYSTWYTH Town will be looking to made a positive response to back-to-back defeats when they welcome Caernarfon Town to Park Avenue in the JD Cymru Premier on Friday evening (7.45pm).

Despite a spirited performance, the Seasiders slipped to a 4-1 loss at Connah’s Quay, as the hosts maintained their undefeated record in the league, to move up to second in the table.

Aber felt that the scoreline was not a fair reflection of the game, having created plenty of chances themselves, but manager Matthew Bishop will look for his side to tighten things up defensively.

It was the Seasiders’ fourth defeat from their six league matches, and they are determined to get back on track in front of the home supporters, after two defeats already at Park Avenue against The New Saints and Airbus UK Broughton.

Both of Aber’s League victories this season, however, have come on a Friday evening, at home to Carmarthen and away to Cefn Druids three weeks ago.

Despite being in ninth position, Aber are, surprisingly, the League’s joint third top scorers and strikers Luke Boundford and Marc Williams have been in excellent form.

Caernarfon are three points ahead of Aber in sixth place, and have so far beaten Airbus and Penybont, and drawn with Connah’s Quay, Cefn Druids and Barry Town.

With former Seasiders Darren Thomas and Jamie Crowther already amongst the goals, they will pose a big threat to an Aber defence that will be looking to tighten up on Friday night.

The Seasiders will meanwhile extend a warm welcome to the Aberystwyth University students, who have recently moved or returned to the Town for Friday night’s match.

A busy eight days will see Bishop’s men then travel to face holders Cardiff Met in the third round of the Nathaniel MG Cup next Tuesday, before travelling to play Bala in the league next Friday.

There is strong competition for places with Geoff Kellaway still waiting for his 250th start for Aber, whilst Alex Boss, Joe Phillips and Stefan Edwards came on last Friday, with Wes Baynes, Lee Jenkins and Richard Ricketts completing a strong bench.

Aberystwyth’s Under-19s continued their positive start to the season with a hard fought 3-2 away win against Risca. Bari Morgan’s side again showed great character, with five of last year’s Under-16s squad starting.

Meanwhile Aberystwyth Town Ladies’ match against Cardiff Met was abandoned after visiting player Grace Corne suffered a neck injury, with the visitors 1-0 ahead.

“The Club sends its best wishes to Cardiff Met Ladies’ player Grace Corne, who suffered a neck injury at Park Avenue yesterday afternoon,” said a club statement.

“The injury was so severe that the Welsh Premier Womens League Cup match had to be abandoned, but we are delighted to hear that Grace was released from Bronglais Hospital overnight, and is back at home recuperating.

“The Club would also like to thank Aber Ladies player and first team physio Ffiona Evans and Cardiff Met sports therapist Chelsie-Jane Mason, whose prompt attention helped prevent it from turning into something worse.

“A special mention as well to our very own John Waters and Nathan Perkins who both remained at the club hours after the game had finished to provide support.”

Newly-promoted Aberystwyth Town Ladies travel to face Swansea City Ladies in the Women’s Welsh Premier League on Sunday, whilst in the JD Cymru Development League South, Aberystwyth’s talented Under 19s host Pontardawe (ko 2pm).
