ABERYSTWYTH Town boss Neville Powell is looking for his side to pick up where they left off when they welcome Carmarthen Town to Park Avenue on Friday night (Ko 7.45pm).
The Seasiders have their sights set on cementing their place in the league’s top six, and with three of their next four league fixtures at home, they hope to make that advantage count.A fifth successive win had seen Aberystwyth Town consolidate their top six position in the JD Welsh Premier League 13 days ago - and Neville Powell’s side are just three points behind leaders The New Saints after 15 matches.
The Seasiders’ superb away form had continued when Declan Walker’s injury time header secured a thrilling 3-2 win at Bala Town, to follow up recent wins at Llandudno, Llanelli and Cardiff Met, and a home success over The New Saints.“The lads are on a roll,” said Powell, after his side repeated their 3-2 home win over Bala back in September.
“It’s a tough place to come, against a good Bala side, but we have deservedly taken the three points tonight.
“The game didn’t really come to life until the second half, it was a bit of a stalemate until then, so we changed it around a bit and it has worked again for us.
“We were full value for our win in the second half, and it’s a massive result for us.”It is Aberystwyth’s best run in the league since 2010, when they won six games in a row at the start of an 11 game unbeaten stretch which propelled the Seasiders into a fourth place finish.
With no game scheduled last weekend, Aberystwyth return to action against ninth-placed Carmarthen Town under the lights at Park Avenue on Friday (30 November).
“A break in the league has probably come at the wrong time for us, because we have momentum, and want to keep it going,” said Powell.
“At least it gives the lads with knocks a chance to rest down, and we look forward to the Carmarthen game.”
The Seasiders are due to visit the Amman Valley to take on Welsh League division one side Cwmamman United in the JD Welsh Cup third round on 8 December.
It is believed to be the first time the two sides have met, with the Blues having confirmed their place by beating Blaenrhondda 2-1 at their home ground of Grenig Park on Saturday afternoon.
Powell’s then men travel to Caernarfon on Friday, 14 December, and will host Cefn Druids on 21 December, before the festive double-header with Newtown, at home on Boxing Day, and away on Sunday, 30 December.
“It has been an unbelievable few weeks for the club, and an amazing six game unbeaten run,” said assistant manager Gavin Allen.
“The players, staff and fans have all been fantastic, and I’m thoroughly enjoying my first stint in as assistant manager. Let’s keep the run going.”Friday’s visitors Carmarthen Town travel to Park Avenue on the back of an important away victory against Llandudno last time out, and held Aber to a 2-2 draw at Richmond Park in the reverse fixture earlier this season. The Old Gold side contains a number of former Seasiders including Lee Surman, Declan Carroll and Luke Bowen. They will, however, be without key midfielder Greg Walters for Friday’s clash through suspension. In what is always a fiercely contested battle between the sides, kick off at Park Avenue is at 7.45pm. Admission costs £8 for adults, £5 for students and £2 for Under 16s.
