DEFENSIVE worries returned to haunt Aberystwyth Town manager Ian Hughes as his side conceded four goals for the second successive week in front of their home supporters, in a 4-1 defeat to Mbi Llandudno at Park Avenue last Friday.
After tightening up at the back in recent weeks, eight goals in as many days have now taken the number of goals conceded to 23 in 13 league games, having also lost 4-0 to The New Saints the previous week. Equally frustrating is the fact that they have won just one of their six league matches at home this season - with 13 of their 18 points being gained on the road. Hughes is looking for his side to revive their fortunes when they take on Rhyl at Belle Venue on Friday (ko 7.45pm), and the Aber manager said they are still well-placed for a top six spot at the league split. The Seasiders had bounced back from their opening day defeat at Llandudno with a 3-1 win over Rhyl back in August, and Aber will be keen to repeat that feat. Aber’s injury situation has lessened over the past week to the extent that Geoff Kellaway and Rhys Griffiths are the only concerns for Club Physio Ffiona Evans as things stand Ross Stephens has started 299 WPL games, and Cledan Davies has 99 starts for Aber, so both players will be passing milestones if they are selected from the start.
There has been some movement in Ian Hughes’ Squad as Darren Thomas and Liam Lewis have been released to sign for other clubs, while goalkeeper Phil Draper has moved to Caersws. Meanwhile Jack Rimmer has signed a two year contract and fellow youngster Liam Jaques has been impressing with his work ethic and attitude in training.
