ABERYSTWYTH Town manager Matthew Bishop felt that a draw was a fair result against Llandudno at Park Avenue on Sunday, and he is looking to his side to maintain their unbeaten home record.
Luke Sherbon came closest to breaking the deadlock when his header crashed against the crossbar in the second half, but they had to settle for a share of the spoils in a goalless stalemate against former manager Alan Morgan’s team.
It was Aber’s first draw of the season, after 12 league games, and having picked up four points from two games at home, they will look to maintain momentum against Airbus this Saturday (ko 5.15pm).
“It’s the first draw of the season, and a clean sheet,” said Bishop.
“I’m pleased in many ways, because that’s two games undefeated at home, and no goals conceded.
“A draw was probably a fair result today. Both teams had half chances, and both keepers pulled a couple of saves off, but neither team really looked like taking the game by the scruff of the neck.”
He added: “It’s about taking chances, and that’s the difference.
“Unfortunately today we didn’t, but we could say the same about Llandudno. If they had taken their chances they had, it could have been a different story for them.
“But they will probably be happier with the result in many ways.”
Aber will be looking to keep the pressure on for a top six position at the league split, when they take on Airbus in the third of a run of six straight matches at Park Avenue.
In a very closely contested league table, just three points separates fourth-placed Bala Town and 11th-placed Airbus, with ninth-placed Aber now looking to make the most of their home advantage.
“Unfortunately we didn’t get the win, but we’ll see how important the result is, with results elsewhere,” commented Bishop.
“We know how important points are at the moment, with everybody being so close to each other.
“We did say when we got back home how important it was to pick up points here. Maybe we have found a bit of home form, and can turn that into a win next game.
“We’ll get back in training now this week and work on our plan for Airbus. We’ve got to get ourselves ready, we’ve got one or two niggles, but we’ll prepare properly, because they’ve got real threats.”
A first-half goal from Geoff Kellaway had earned Aberystwyth a 1-0 away win against the Wingmakers in August, and they will look to complete their first double.
Skipper Luke Sherbon is among the players carrying a niggling injury, having been taken off with a thigh strain against Llandudno.
Meanwhile Greg Walters has been released to return to Haverfordwest County, with the consent of the Aberystwyth management.
