ABERYSTWYTH Town manager Neville Powell believes his side are moving in the right direction after the Seasiders claimed a determined draw away at Bala Town last Friday night.

The Seasiders remain winless at the bottom of the table, with just two points from seven league matches, but there were positives for Powell to take.

The Lakesiders scored their first league goal for a month when Nathan Burke slotted home close range, but on the stroke of half-time Aber skipper Jonny Spittle bagged an equaliser.

Both sides had chances to take all three points after the break, but Powell feels that things are starting to come together, and the points will follow.

“It’s always a good point at Bala, but at the end the lads felt that they should’ve had all three,” said Powell.

“We have got to be happy with the last two performances from the lads.

“The players have acquitted themselves well, and they are starting to get to know each other, and the style of play. It seems to be coming together.

“We are pleased with the point, but it would have been nice to have taken all three, which they probably deserved.

“Bala were on the back of a couple of defeats, so we knew they were going to start quickly. They are very direct and put us under a lot of pressure.

“They play the game at a high tempo from the start, and we struggled to keep up at times, but obviously they couldn’t keep that up for 90 minutes.

“We got the goal at the right time before half time, and our second half performance was really good, all across the park. With the chances we had, we should have gone on to win.”

The Seasiders face two home games this week, as they hosted Airbus UK Broughton in the Nathaniel MG Cup on Tuesday night, followed by their JD Welsh Premier clash with Barry Town United on Saturday (ko 2.30pm).

Aber started their season with a 1-1 draw at Jenner Park in August, but Barry have gone on to register three wins, including a 1-0 win at pacesetters Bangor last Saturday, with Kayne McLaggan netting his fifth goal.

Joe Culshaw could feature for Aber this week as he returns from his three-match ban, whilst local lad Mathew Jones is pushing for a starting place.

Powell will look for his side to build on their second half performance at Bala as they look to build momentum.

“It was our first point away from home since Barry, and we’ll take it into the League Cup this week, and against Barry on Saturday,” said Powell.

“We’ve picked up a few injuries, and are down to the bare bones, but young Mathew (Jones) came on for Geoff Kellaway, and he did really well for us.

“It’s important that we get some of our players back who are injured.

“John Mckenna played for 70 minutes with a split head, and the back four also deserve a special mention.

“They had to withstand a lot of high balls coming into the penalty box, and I thought that they were superb.

“We got caught cold on their goal, but apart from that I thought Bala have not had too many clear cut chances.

“In the second half we were really good, and on another day we could have got three points from the game.”
