IT proved to be a difficult home-coming for depleted Aberystwyth Town - after a fantastic run on the road - as their seven-match unbeaten record ended wit 4-0 defeat against The New Saints at Park Avenue last Friday.

Aber were only able to name two outfield players on their bench, and both assistant manager Wyn Thomas and youngster Tom Jones were called up - as further injuries to Craig Williams and Geoff Kellaway saw both players end up in hospital.

The Seasiders were already without Rhys Griffiths, Darren Thomas and Ross Stephens, and were unable to play loan striker Jamie Reed against his registered club, as Antonio Corbisiero was recalled from injury, along with Cledan Davies.

Youngster Liam Jacques was also given his first Welsh Premier start, and in front of a bumper crowd of 644 - boosted by over 200 students - the Seasiders had a point to prove.

Recent wins at Bala and Connah’s Quay, and a draw at Newtown, had been founded on a solid defence, and Aber knew they needed to keep things tight on their return to Park Avenue against the full-timers.

The Saints, looking to make it five league wins in a row, however proved too strong on the night and after Scott Quigley had opened the scoring with his 38th minute strike, there was only ever one team that was going to go on and win it.
