ST DOGMAELS ran out 2-0 winners over Crannog to return to the top of the Costcutter Ceredigion division one, three points clear of title rivals Cardigan Town, who have a game in hand.
Steve Williams’ side dominated for long periods of this hard-fought tussle, although Crannog went close, with a couple of headers sneaking over the bar.
In difficult playing conditions, outstanding midfielder Rhys Jones provided both goals, from a header and a free kick.
Crannog pushed hard through the likes of George Colven, Gary Davies and Mike Glover, but the Saints’ defence held firm, with skipper Jason Williams a tower of strength as the visitors saw the game out for their ninth win from 10 league games.
The matches between Llanboidy and Ffostrasol and Aberporth against Dewi Stars were both rained off last weekend.
In division two, Crannog Reserves continued with their decent form of late to produce a fine 3-1 away win at Parc Puw, against a decent Bargod Rangers outfit.
Two goals from front runner Rhydian Roberts proved to be the difference, with Tony MacDonald also on target for Crannog, whilst for the Rangers Jack Fisher netted their goal from the penalty spot.In division three, Cardigan Town emerged as 3-1 winners of their local derby match against town rivals Maesglas Reserves, in what turned out to be a splendid match in the heavy conditions.
There was little to choose between the teams at the break, with Chris Jones netting for Maesglas with a fine strike, and player-manager Richard Cummings responding for the Magpies to make it 1-1.
Cardigan had territorial advantage after the interval and enjoyed several decent chances, with 16 year-old midfielder Jack Everton showing superb touches.
A goal eventually arrived when Mallt Maskell was on hand to tap the ball home, after good work by winger Steff Davies and midfielder Kieran Hurley.
The killer goal arrived late on, but it was well worth waiting for as Maskell rose above the defence to head home a superb cross from Aled Davies to make it 3-1.
There were plenty of goals at Felinfach where their Reserves were held to a thrilling 4-4 draw by Llanboidy Reserves. On target for the Milkmen were Kris Griffiths, who bagged a brace, Robbie Bull and Dafydd Evans. Owain Gibbin struck twice for the visitors, with Ifan Jones and Gethin Scourfield also netting.* Cardigan cruised into round four of the Emrys Morgan Cup with a 4-1 victory away at Padarn United, where former Aberystwyth Town Under 19s starlet Liam Doherty bagged a fine hat-trick.The young striker opened his account with a superb goal struck from long range with the outside of his boot, which rocketed into the top corner of the net.Doherty added another goal in the first half, to add to a goal from Dylan Davies, and the Magpies were almost out of sight by the break. The hosts struck back with a goal just after the half-time interval, before Doherty completed his treble.Lampeter are through to the fourth round of the competition after they beat New Quay 3-1 at Cae Arthur, with goals from Rhys Bowden, Jason Jones and Luke Lovell.Crymych bowed out of the Cwpan Coffa Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies with a 3-1 defeat to Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one leaders Tregaron Turfs, but the Preseli men made their opponents battle hard for their win.The Costcutter Ceredigion League division two side were leading 1-0 at half-time, thanks to a goal from Ifan Davies, but the hosts turned the tables in the second half with goals from Deian Williams, Carwyn Earey and William Williams.r and the second from a free kick.
