BALA Town were left completely stunned as Will Evans’ dramatic stoppage time goal kept Cardiff Met’s top six hopes alive within the JD Cymru Premier with last-gasp 1-0 win - and completed a league double over the Lakesiders.
With the two minutes of injury time about to end, Evans’ hopeful cross into the box appeared to be going out of play when it caught a gust of wind and deceived keeper Josh Tibbetts as it blew into the far corner of the net to snatch victory.
The Lakesiders had the elements in their favour in the first half, and they had a couple of early chances, with keeper Will Fuller denying Louis Robles, and Andy Burns firing over the bar from 25 yards.
Met’s Mael Davies drove forward and attempted a strike, which flew out of play, but Bala were on top in terms of possession and an attack down the left led to Steve Leslie floating a cross over the crossbar.
Henry Jones and Kieran Smith then played a tidy one-two to set up Chris Venables, but home keeper Fuller saved. Bala had a series of corners before the interval, but they were unable to capitalise, and the deadlock continued in an uneventful second half, with much of the play being held up in the middle of the park.
A cross from the right saw a Met chance flash across the face of goal, and keeper Tibbetts then made a save from Evans, whilst at the other end Anthony Stephens’ delivery into the area was met by an unmarked Venables at the back post, but his effort was comfortably collected by Fuller.
Bala did have the ball in the net in the 85th minute, only for it to be ruled out for a foul on the keeper - but with two minutes of injury time up disaster struck as Evans’ cross was caught in a gust of wind and deceived Tibbetts for a cruel winner.
