WELSH Cup winners Bala Town have shown their Welsh Premier League ambition by signing experienced striker Les Davies from Connah’s Quay Nomads, ahead of their Europa League campaign.

A three-times Welsh Cup winner, as well as a Welsh Premier League title winner at Bangor City, he was named in UEFA’s prestigious 32 man Best Player in Europe shortlist in 2012.

Also capped at Wales Under 21s level, he appeared for Wales’ Semi Pros in 2006, and the strong centre forward’s goalscoring record speaks for itself, with 122 goals in 367 appearances.

The 32-year-old forward is among the top 20 all-time scorers on the domestic scene, and last season he helped Connah’s Quay pip the Lakesiders to runners-up position in the title race.

His performances for Glantraeth in the Welsh Cup early in his career took the eye, persuading Bangor City to take him into the Welsh Premier in November 2003, after making half a dozen appearances for local rivals Caernarfon Town.

A Welsh Under-18 cap, he spent two seasons at both Bangor City and Porthmadog, whilst also attracting the attention of several Football League clubs.

He also won a Welsh semi-professional cap, before becoming one of Nev Powell’s first signings on his return Bangor City in June 2007.

Davies, who was named in the league’s Team of the Season in 2012/13, reached the 100-goal mark in the WPL in September 2014.

After eight seasons at Bangor, he then made surprise move to the Nomads the following August, and spent two seasons with them before switching to the Lakesiders, where he will wear the number 12 shirt.

Davies will join Colin Caton’s squad in time for their pre-Europa League fixture against Dankse Bank Northern Ireland Champions Linfield.

The side from Belfast have qualified for the UEFA Champions League and is one of three fixtures organised between the Welsh Premier League and Irish FA as preparation for the forthcoming European games.

The Blues will take on the Lakesiders at Maes Tegid on Saturday, 17 June, with a 2pm kick-off.

Bala will then travel to Belfast on Saturday, 24 June to face Northern Irish outfit Crusaders. This fixture will be the reverse of last season’s pre-season fixture which saw The Hatchetmen come away as 3-0 winners.

Following Bala’s Europa League qualifying matches, with the home tie confirmed to take place at Rhyl, Colin Caton’s men will welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Maes Tegid.

Wolves have agreed to send their Under 23s squad, but there is a possibility that a few first teamers will be involved in the game, which is scheduled for Wednesday, 12 July (ko 7.45pm).

Next up for Bala is a friendly against Cymru Alliance side Caernarfon in Stephen Fisher’s Testimonial on Saturday, 15 July.

Chester FC, from the Vanarama National League, will then visit Maes Tegid on Monday, 17 July (7.45pm).

Bala’s first match of the season will be against Newtown at home on 29/30 August in the first round of the Nathaniel MG League Cup.

• Meanwhile in the Welsh Premier League’s Fair Play table, Bala Town finished fourth, behind The New Saints, Cardiff Met, and Gap Connah’s Quay Nomads, having picked up three red cards and 43 cautions throughout the season.
