AFTER being frustrated by a goalless deadlock against Brecon Northcote the day before, Aberystwyth University discovered the scoring touch in Spar Mid Wales League division two with a 6-1 triumph at Newbridge.

Tom Spicer led the way with a hat-trick, to help lift the students up to fourth in the table on goal difference.

The students dominated throughout, carving out plenty of chances as they opened up a three-goal interval lead through Liam Powell’s brace and Spicer.

Pablo de Torres added a fourth soon after the break and, despite a penalty by Aeron Powell, the University had the last word with two more goals from Spicer to complete his hat-trick.

The day before, the University were locked in a goalless stalemate at home to Brecon Northcote on a frustrating day for the hosts.

They toiled hard to break down the defence-minded visitors, who were without six first team players, with Liam Powell hitting the post twice in the first half, but Brecon held on for a draw.

Dolgellau twice hit back to earn a 2-2 draw with Hay St Mary’s Saints, who had twice taken the lead through Jack Biggs and Adi Lawford. Dolgellau dug deep for a point, courtesy of two goals from Jasper Jones.

Richie Powell scored four goals as Builth Wells continued to set the pace at the top of the table with an emphatic 7-1 win over Abermule.

Jamie Mcilroy, Jonny Samuel and Harry Bastable, from the penalty spot, also scored for unbeaten Builth, whilst Rob Bayliss replied with a penalty for Mule.

Nathan Prodger scored all four goals as Llansantffraid Villagers had a 4-1 win over Penybont United, who replied through Lewis Pugh.

A hat-trick from Robbie Harthorne capped a solid 4-1 success for Montgomery Town away at Talgarth, with Jack Williams also finding the net. Harry Sharman replied for the home team from the penalty spot.

On Friday, Dyffryn Banw had edged a close-fought 1-0 win at Presteigne, with Rhodri Davies hitting a screamer from 25 yards out to secure the three points.
