After notching their first win of the season in the MMP Mid Wales League division two the week before against Presteigne, Aberystwyth University made it back-to-back victories as they registered a 1-0 home success over Waterloo Rovers.
The students produced another determined effort against the Welshpool side, with James Watts getting the only goal of the game, to earn a hard-earned win.
On Sunday night, Aberystwyth University then faced Ceredigion rivals Borth United at Aberystwyth’s Park Avenue and honours ended even in a 2-2 draw.
The match began at a fast pace, with both teams creating some good goalscoring chances, but it was the students who made the breakthrough on 25 minutes when a free kick from the left wing was headed into the path of Jamie Stuart, who volleyed in his second goal in two days.
It got even better for the students five minutes later as Liam Powell scored a rasping low shot from 25 yards out to give University a 2-0 lead at the interval.
Borth came out with more urgency as the second half got underway and they managed to pull a goal back within just two minutes when Guto Huws scored with a volley through a melee of players.
Huws was unlucky moments later to see his shot miss the post by inches, but he wasn’t to be denied and on 75 minutes his low shot beat the keeper for 2-2.
Both teams had chances to win the match as the rain got heavier, but on balance of play a draw was the right result.
The previous day had seen Montgomery Town extend their lead at the top of the division two table as goals from Scott Williams and Charlie Jellett earned them a 2-1 win away at Dolgellau, who had stayed in touch through David Edwards.
Rhayader Town were beaten 3-2 away against Dyffryn Banw, despite a brace from Jamie Evans, as goals from James Vaughan, Alwyn Jones and Gerallt Evans secured the points for the home side.
