STILL-UNBEATEN Talybont left it late to claim a share of the spoils in their local derby with Bow Street Reserves in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one last weekend.
Both teams gave their all in a keenly contested match, and a draw was probably a fair result, with Talybont moving up to third place in the table.
Talybont struck the crossbar twice, but it was the visitors who finally took the lead 10 minutes from time when a superb long range shot from Amlyn Ifans flew into the top corner of the net.
The hosts rallied well and they managed to force an equaliser at the death through Mike South, to maintain their unbeaten league record and move within a point of second-placed Aberdyfi, with two games in hand.
Leaders Dolgellau moved eight points clear at the top with an emphatic 7-1 home win over Llanilar, who were blown away by a dominant performance from the home team.
Dominic Thomas was in fine form as he led the way with five goals, whilst David Edwards chipped in with a brace to seal an emphatic win.
A depleted Llanilar were 3-0 down at half-time, but they pulled a goal back through Tomas Davies, before the visiting team moved out of sight.
Rivals Aberdyfi slipped to a 3-1 loss to Aberystwyth University Reserves at Blaendolau, with Owain Llyr Morris and Shaun Roberts scoring for the students, before Liam Jones sealed victory with a well-taken free kick.
Struggling Machynlleth Reserves were meanwhile unable to raise a side to play Padarn United on Saturday.
Tregaron Turfs registered a solid 5-1 win over Penrhyncoch Reserves to record their fourth league win of the season. Gareth Davies, Nigel Jones, Ifan Jones, Guto Roberts and Huw Bonner scored their winning goals.
Tega Emesh netted a reply for Penrhyn Reserves, who slipped to their sixth league defeat of the season.
Llanrhystud lifted themselves to the top of the division two table as they made it five wins from five, with an 15-1 demolition of Llanilar Reserves.
Ben Lewis fired five goals for the hosts, whilst Liam Lewis added four more and Lee Jones also netted a hat-trick. Two goals from Mathew Jones and a Jake Jones goal completed the scoring, whilst Robin Mleczek earned the accolade as the man of the match.
Llanilar, who were down to the bare bones for this match, showed plenty of character and scored a deserved consolation goal through Jac Bonner.
Aberystwyth University Thirds made a welcome return to league action by beating Padarn Reserves 4-2.
It was a good start for stand-in captain Adam Walters, who was filling the boots of the injured Michael Cotter-Jones. George Taylor netted a hat-trick, and Andy Whatty was also on target as the University came back from a goal down to claim the points.
Tony Mainwaring and Tegid Owen were on target for Padarn Reserves.
Borth United Reserves meanwhile booked their place in the next round of the Cambrian Tyres League Cup as goals from Ben Wragg, James Davies and Ryan Doyle earned them a 3-2 first round win away at Penparcau.
