TEN-man Llanilar ended the unbeaten record of leaders Bont in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League with a thrilling 4-2 win at Castle Hill Field.
Two penalties by Ryan Edwards, and goals by Ryan Hopkins and Guto Roberts sealed an excellent win for the hosts, who had seen Hopkins sent off in the first half.
After a delay of 20 minutes, due to the referee being late, the game was played in constant wind and rain on a soggy pitch.
Bont, eager to bounce back from their Emrys Morgan Cup semi-final defeat to Berriew Reserves in midweek, had put the hosts under real pressure from the start.
They were rewarded when some good passing enabled Dion Davies to sneak in at the near post to score with a good finish.
Llanilar hit back when a good cross by Guto Roberts was converted at the back post by Ryan Hopkins to equalise - but just as they thought that they were back in the game they were dealt a major blow as Hopkins was shown an early red card, seemingly for comments to the referee.
Llanilar, however, continued to threaten on the break, and took a surprise lead when Guto Roberts was upended in the box and Ryan Edwards netted the penalty.
Bont dominated possession, but Llanilar were looking more threatening, with the excellent Ryan Edwards a major threat.
He picked up the ball on the half way line, showed excellent feet to go beyond three defenders and the keeper, but off balance he managed to miss the target.
Then, just as the first half was coming to a close, Llanilar were awarded a second penalty as Ryan Edwards’ quick feet in the box drew the defender into a foul, and he once again stepped up to fire home.
At the other end Dan John then superbly cleared off the line to maintain a 3-1 lead, and early in the second half Lee Jones went through on goal, but he was superbly denied by the feet of Lewis Tomlins.
Moments later, however, a cross into the box caused all sorts of trouble and Dewi Sion Evans poked home to make it 3-2.
Sensing a comeback, Bont’s veteran Glyndwr Hughes went through on goal, but his shot was blocked by Steff Davies.
Bont continued to enjoy most of the possession, but once again they were caught on the counter attack by 10-man Llanilar.
A cross into the box was picked up by Dewi Evans at the back post, and his chip back in was knocked back across goal by Ryan Edwards, and headed in by the tireless Guto Roberts for a decisive 4-2 lead.
Elsewhere Talybont consolidated a top three position with a 3-0 win over Borth United Reserves, with Jac Williams, Robbie Southgate and Ryan Hughes scoring.
Tregaron Turfs eased to a 6-1 home win over Penrhyncoch Reserves, with Rhun Garner impressing with a superb haul of five goals for the Turfs, with Nigel Jones also scoring. Tega Emeseh got the reply.
In the Second Division Trophy Talybont Reserves were beaten 3-1 by Dolgellau Reserves in their final group match, but both teams progressed to the semi-final stage.
George-Jackson-Townshend fired a well-taken hat-trick to ensure that Dolgellau finished on top of the group, whilst Jamie Evans was the Talybont goal-scorer.
In the second group, Aberystwyth University Thirds won 4-0 away at Padarn United Reserves, with Jamie Stuart and George Taylor scoring two goals each.
• BONT saw their dream of lifting the Emrys Morgan Cup Final for the first time shattered as they lost 2-0 to Berriew Reserves in their semi-final last Wednesday.
Goals from Kie Evans and Jack Lewis proved decisive at Latham Park as the Montgomeryshire League side set up a final against either Llandysul or Waterloo.
Evans headed Berriew in front inside the opening quarter, but Bont enjoyed a good spell after the break, before Lewis settled the tie with a superb 25 yard lobbed goal.
