BALA Town returned to second position in the Welsh Premier League as they staged a superb comeback from two goals down to claim a thrilling 3-2 win over basement battlers Haverfordwest County.
In a game switched from a waterlogged Maes Tegid to Airbus UK Broughton’s 3G pitch, the Bluebirds took charge with goals from Kieran Howard and Greg Walters, but for the second game in succession, Bala hit back to secure the points.
Mike Hayes pulled one back and the Lakesiders equalised when the ball deflected off Haverfordwest defender Sam Rodon, with Ian Sheridan then netting the winning goal 11 minutes from time.
It was a satisfying win for striker Lee Hunt, who picked up the man of the match award in his 100th game for Bala.
“It felt really good to be honest,” said the 34 year-old, who has made well over 300 Welsh Premier appearances, including spells at Bangor, Rhyl and Prestatyn.
“We are starting to get a bit of a run going now, so it is all good at the minute.
“I think it was from our mistakes that we went 2-0 down, and we need to stop conceding silly goals, but we also showed a lot of character again to come back.
“The bigger the gap we open up on the teams below us, the harder it will be for them to catch us in the second half of the season, where there are only 10 games.”
Having already guaranteed their top six place, the Lakesiders will be keen to consolidate second position in the table when they play hosts to third-placed MBi Llandudno at home this weekend (5.15pm).
