LLANIDLOES Town missed their chance of sharing pole position in the MMP Mid Wales League division one as they drew a blank against Llandrindod Wells at Victoria Avenue.
With Caersws in JD Welsh Cup action, the Daffs failed to fully capitalise in a goalless deadlock that sees them two points off the pace at the top.
The two sides also come face to face tonight (Wednesday) when the Daffs make the return trip to the Broadway, before then hosting Llanfair United in another crucial game on Saturday.
“In the first half we were decent, created four or five good opportunities, but never really came out after half time,” said manager Hugh Clarke.
“We pride ourselves on our fitness and finishing games strongly, but we did not have any real spark anywhere on the pitch during the second half.
“The longer the game went on, they looked the more likely to go on and win, and we were fortunate in the end.
“It was disappointing, but one point is better than none, and we’ll go there on Wednesday in a positive frame of mind, looking for three points.”
It always promised to be a tight affair, with both teams in miserly form of late, with the Daffs boasting three clean sheets in three league games.
Dewi Allen, Adam Worton and Peter Rees had their openings, but a strong Landrindod outfit battled hard and went closest to winning it when Mike Collister struck the woodwork.
Second-placed Radnor Valley also missed out on taking over top spot in division one as they suffered a last-gasp 3-2 loss at home to Bow Street.
Street opened the scoring when Owen Roberts Young hit a sweet half volley into the bottom corner of the net after a quarter of an hour, and Tom Wyn doubled the lead from close range, from a corner on 35 minutes.
Radnor Valley hit back with two goals in the second half to level matters through Ieuan Price and Craig Pigott, but Bow Street clinched the points when Tom Williams netted the winning goal in the dying minutes.
Will Thomas continued his impressive scoring form with four goals as fourth-placed Welshpool Town closed in with a solid 5-2 win away at Kerry.
Josh Morgan also netted for the visitors, but Kerry created plenty of chances, with Matt Mumford and Max Mclaughlin scoring their replies.
First half goals by Callum Page, Andy Evans, Josh Matthews and Geraint Jones earned Carno a 4-1 home win over Churchstoke, who replied through Jake O’Donnell, whilst Aberaeron beat Builth Wells 2-0, with goals from Dan James and Ifan Burrell.
In division two, Charlie Proctor scored twice as Waterloo Rovers beat Montgomery 2-1. Alec Jones replied.
