BARMOUTH and Dyffryn United, whose challenging start to the new season had pitted them against two of the Welsh Alliance’s top outfits last term, were reduced to second-best by champions Trearddur Bay United in a 4-1 defeat.

Yet, much of the action at Wern Mynach was evenly contested, as the hosts largely contained their talented opponents and created lots of attractive play themselves.

Chances were limited but Ieuan Brookes raised home cheers with his equaliser on 17 minutes to nullify Trearddur’s opening goal from Jordie Murphy.

Barmouth were back in arrears on the hour to Curt Williams’ strike for last season’s title kings, who wrapped up their win with goals from Bryn Thomas and Asa Thomas after 71 and 73 minutes.

It was Barmouth’s second successive defeat after being edged out 1-0 at Nantlle Vale, where Jack Pierce Jones netted a late winner with just six minutes remaining.

Penrhyndeudraeth confirmed their place among the Welsh Alliance’s front-runners, as they went three matches unbeaten with a 4-1 win at Glan Conwy.

Tom Smith scored the opener after 20 minutes, from a raid along the left wing, and Dave Copsey’s shot on 37 took a deflection off a defender for 2-0 at the break.

Jack Davies marked his exellent display by netting the next goal on 56 minutes, after an exchange with Dylan Hughes. Cory Young scored a late reply for Glan Conwy, but Adam Griffiths chipped home Penrhyn’s fourth goal right at the end.

In midweek Penrhyndeudraeth’s Meilir Williams had netted a 58th minute equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Llanrug United, who had led at the interval through Carl Griffiths’ 28th minute goal.

Elsewhere in division one, Llangefni beat Llandudno Junction 2-1 in a clash of last season’s third and second-placed sides, with Craig Roberts hitting both their winning goals on 35 and 90 minutes.

Lee Ellis had steered Junction ahead on the half hour but that lead was nullified quickly, after which the 1-1 stalemate continued until the game’s closing seconds.

St Asaph City fought back well to draw 2-2 with Llanrug United, whose goals from David Noel Williams on 70 minutes and Kevin Lloyd on 77 were cancelled out by St Asaph’s replies from John Taylor on 75 minutes and Jake Walker on 89.
