A GOOD crowd attended Borth United’s first ever game in the Spar Mid Wales League division one against Welshpool Town at Uppingham Fields, but it proved to be a difficult afternoon for the Crows.

The visitors took the lead on 15 minutes when Ian Probert opened the scoring from the penalty spot, yet almost immediately youngster Ryan Edwards, making his debut for Borth, was unlucky to see his snap shot turned for a corner.

Gradually Welshpool took a firm control of the match, with Josh Morgan doubling the lead with a deft chip over goalkeeper Justin Davies, and five minutes before the interval Chris Roberts scored from a free kick to give the visitors a 3-0 interval lead.

Borth made a solid start to the second half, but they were unable to capitalise on their possession and Ricky Litchfield made the points safe with a cool finish.

With the introduction of Clive ‘Jemba’ Morgan to help the hard-working Ryan Edwards in the front line, a spirited Borth battled on, and Morgan’s shot grazed the crossbar within minutes of coming on.

As the match reached its conclusion Lee Jones’ volley from out on left wing went just inches past the far post, but there was to be no way back from the home side.

Borth, however, could take heart from an improved second half display, ahead of their midweek derby with Bow Street on Tuesday night.
