TREGARON Turfs ended the unbeaten record of derby rivals Bont, to close the gap on the frontrunners of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League with a convincing 4-1 home win.

Two goals from Llyr Davies and singles by Ifan Jones and Llion Thomas sealed a superb home win, to move the Turfs to within four points of the division one leaders, with two games in hand.

The Turfs opened their account when Thomas whipped in a corner which Bont fail to clear, and Llyr Davies tapped home after a scramble in the box.

Llyr Davies then doubled his tally when he latched onto a pin-point pass from Ifan Jones and fired home in the bottom left corner of the net.

Worse was to follow for Bont as Llion Thomas put another vicious corner into the box, Gareth Davies headed it back across goal and Ifan Jones beat the Bont defence to head home into the roof of the net.

Ben Lewis pulled a goal back for Bont in the second half, after an Andrew Gilbert corner had caused some confusion amongst the Turfs defence.

With 25 minutes to go, Llyr Davies was denied his second hat-trick in as many weeks, but Llion Thomas tapped it home from the rebound to make it 4-1 to the Turfs.

Talybont meanwhile notched a good 3-1 away win against a stronger than usual Borth United Reserves team, to move up to fifth place in division one.

Goals from Mike Fitzpatrick, Anthony Vasquez and Osian Thomas sealed a hard-earned win over the Crows, who remain at the bottom of the table.

Aberystwyth University Reserves gave themselves a lift as goals from Dylan Rhys Price, Kieran Jones and Daniele D’alessio sealed a 3-0 win over Machynlleth Reserves.

• Padarn United Reserves overcame difficult playing conditions to register a solid 3-1 home win over Llanon in their Second Division Trophy match.

Both sides showed potential early on, but it was Simon Lovatt who broke the deadlock for Llanon, after beating the offside trap and slotting home.

Padarn, however, replied straight away when some lovely play from Sion Gittins created the chance for James Graham to score the equaliser.

Padarn again pressed hard in the second half and they took a 2-1 lead through Tony Mainwaring, after being played in by Cameron James.

Llanon didn’t let their heads drop and almost got an equaliser, only for the ball to hit the inside of the post.

Padarn, however, hit the visitors on the break and scored through Billy Williams, after being played in by man of the match Mathew Savage..
