TREGARON Turfs are through to the second round of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League Cup after they notched a solid 2-0 away win at Padarn United last weekend.
Mel Davies and Cledan Davies sealed a hard-earned win for the Turfs, who had also missed a penalty, whilst at the other end Jason Davies came closest to scoring for the home side.
Aled Parry meanwhile fired a hat-trick as Bont made progress in the Newman Memorial Trophy with a 5-3 extra-time win over Penrhyncoch Reserves.
Penrhyn scored their goals through Shaun Murphy and Jack Barron, with a brace, but Trevor Jenkins and Daniel Owen also scored to win it for Bont, who had hit back from being two goals down.Aberystwyth University Reserves shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Aberdyfi in the Cambrian Tyres League division one. Kieron Shand and Joshua Reader netted for the students, but goals by Tim Holt and Richard Winchurch ensured a share of the spoils.Penparcau Reserves are top of the Cambrian Tyres League division two on goal difference after they notched a solid 5-0 home win over Aberystwyth University Thirds. Harry Turner and Keiran Duggan both scored twice, along with a Danny Bird goal to secure a comfortable win.
Second-placed Dolgellau Reserves meanwhile kept pace as goals by Darryn Jones and Jasper Jones earned a 2-1 success over Corris United, with the reply by Jack Owen.
Meanwhile the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League has been informed that Borth United Reserves has decided to withdraw from division two with immediate effect.
“It is with regret that Borth United will be withdrawing its Reserves from the league for the remainder of this season, with immediate effect,” wrote Borth secretary Claire Lewis. “This is due to the Reserves team being unable to fulfil its remaining fixtures, due to a lack of players.
“On behalf of the club we wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused, and would like to wish the remaining clubs the best of luck for the rest of the season.”
A lack of players committing was also the reason that both Llanon and Penrhyncoch Thirds withdrew from the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League in the summer.
