TREGARON Turfs enjoyed more cup success as they marched on into the second round of the Len and Julia Newman Memorial Trophy with a solid 4-0 win at Aberystwyth University Thirds.
After a 3-0 win over Trefonen in the Emrys Morgan Cup, Tregaron had to work hard, before they finally secured progress against the battling students.
A strong second half performance saw the Turfs end their challenge, courtesy of goals from Gareth Davies, Martin Rees, Llyr Davies and Rhun Garner.
Llanilar eased to their fourth win in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one with an emphatic 9-0 home win over Aberdyfi.
Rhydian Ap Owen led the way with a hat-trick, with Guto Roberts scoring twice, along with further home goals from Ryan Hopkins, Ryan Edwards, Jack Lawton as well as an own goal.
The result lifted Llanilar above their opponents into sixth place, and with games in hand on the sides above them.
Bow Street Reserves closed the gap on leaders Bont to six points as they notched a 3-0 win at Machynlleth Reserves, with goals from Shaun Jones, Joe Williams and Gethin ap Dafydd.
A second half comeback saw Aberystwyth University Seconds pick up their first points of the season as they defeated Borth Reserves 3-1 at Blaendolau.
Nathan Ash, Gytis Pivnickas and an own goal sealed the points for the students, whilst Borth had hit the net through an effort from Ryan Doyle.
It was Borth Reserves’ eight defeat in 10 outings in division two this season.
In the Cambrian Tyres division two, Dolgellau Reserves moved within five points of leaders Talybont Reserves, with a game in hand, courtesy of a 5-1 win away against Padarn Reserves, who replied through Paul Keegan.
Iwan Lloyd, George Jackson-Townshend, Charlie Owen, Dion Jones and Louis Slaney all netted for Dolgellau.
Talybont Reserves remain top of the table after goals from Ben Hall, Sam Penfold, Kieron Owen, Chris Wylde, from the penalty spot, and Rob Makaruk sealed a 5-2 win over Llanon.EMRYS MORGAN CUPBONT maintained their excellent unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 victory in the Emrys Morgan Cup, after travelling over the Cambrian Mountains to face Rhayader Town Reserves.With several key players missing, the visitors took the lead in the opening minutes with Ben Lewis’s glancing header from an Andrew Gilbert corner.Despite conceding much possession over the duration of the game, the visiting defence coped well with any home pressure, keeping a solid shape throughout, with Trevor Jenkins’ only save of note coming from a misplaced clearance from his own teammate.The visitors created numerous opportunities on the break as Rhayader looked to push for an equaliser, but 1-0 the scoreline remained and a trip to face St Dogmaels now awaits them.Penrhyncoch Reserves bowed out with a 2-1 defeat to Costcutter Ceredigion League side Llanboidy, with David Newton scoring for the home side.Two goals from Celt Thomas-Jones proved enough to set up a third-round tie at home to Tregaron on Saturday.Llanfyllin Town are through to the fourth round after goals from Matthew Digwood and Kyham Whytton earned a 2-0 win over rivals Llanfair Reserves.
