Llanidloes Town remain six points clear at the top of the MMP Mid Wales League division one after a weekend ravaged by the wet weather saw only one game in the whole league being played.

It was a frustrating outcome for the Daffs, who must now wait until the end of the month for their next league game, at home to Welshpool Town on 30 March.

Before then, weather permitting, they are due to host Four Crosses in their rearranged Central Wales Senior Challenge Cup quarter-final tie on Tuesday night.

The winners meet Llanrhaeadr or Builth Wells in the last four, while Berriew take on Radnor Valley in the other semi-final.

With just three league games remaining, there are no concerns of a fixture backlog as the Daffs bid to press their claims for silverware in the next few weeks.

“There should be no problem in getting the games in, there are a lot of teams worse off than us,” said Llani boss Hugh Clarke. “Weather permitting, we’ve got Four Crosses in the Cup on Tuesday, and hopefully the lads will be fresh, and not rusty, after a few weeks without a game.”

Among those to fall victim of waterlogged pitches were Llani, whose trip to Tywyn Bryncrug was called off, while second-placed Llanfair United’s crunch clash with Caersws was another casualty.

Aberaeron’s home match with Welshpool Town, and Bow Street’s clash with Radnor Valley at Cae Piod also fell foul of the weather, along with Churchstoke’s scheduled match against Builth Wells.

The only fixture to go ahead was on Friday, as Berriew overcame Llansantffraid 4-2 to move to within seven points of leaders Llani, with three games in hand.

A defensive error saw Charlie Humphreys open the scoring after 15 minutes, and Berriew doubled their lead soon after when a corner dropped to the back post and was poked in by Richard Davies.

Humphreys powered down the wing and found Davies to make it 3-0 at the break, but four minutes into the second half Nathan Prodger caught keeper Archie Jones off guard to reduce the arrears.

Seventeen year-old Bailee James Austin made it 4-1 with a debut goal after a Davies shot had parried by the keeper, and although Tom Ring did manage to pull a goal back for the Saints, Berriew held firm to secure the three points.
