BARMOUTH and Dyffryn United eased away from the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One basement as they registered a welcome 4-1 win over fellow strugglers Glan Conwy.

Encouraged by the previous week’s Welsh Cup qualifier win at Felinheli, Barmouth looked lively from the start and several attempts went close, but they had to wait for the opening goal.

Chris Wilkins was the scorer on 34 minutes, as he finished off an incisive attack that had started with a free-kick by manager and keeper Llyr Hughes.

Barmouth, who were looking for their first league win after five defeats, were boosted again by goal number two by Nathan Warren a minute from half-time, when he benefited from a Rob Murfet assist to find the target.

Glan Conwy stirred early in the second half, when Charlie Jones exploited some hesitancy in the home defence to prod a reply goal from close range.

Barmouth’s Murfet was credited with the best goal of the match after 69 minutes when he volleyed home after Warren’s good cross from the left.

The lively Murfet then pounced again to wrap up a morale-boosting win with the fourth goal near the end.

Pwllheli were meanwhile swept aside by hosts Glantraeth in a 5-0 defeat that again exposed their defensive failings, with 26 goals conceded in eight Welsh Alliance and cup games.

Just one goal separated the teams at half time at the Bodorgan ground, with the hosts’ Jamie Roberts having headed past keeper Jiri Kober on 19 minutes from Andy Barker’s cross.

Pwllheli floundered in the second period and were punished early by a 50th minute second goal from James Burgess, with much worse to follow.

Mark Jones made good use of a rare chance, only to be tacked at the last split second, but Glantraeth dominated and gave the visitors a torrid time.

As the goals tally mounted, Glantraeth benefited through sub Corrig McGonigle’s goal on 61 minutes, Barker on 73 and McGonigle again on 84.

Leaders Trearddur Bay United registered their fifth straight win at Llanberis, but left it extremely late, as Ryan Jones’s only goal was delayed right up until four minutes into added time.

Llangefni were 5-0 successes at winless Llanrwst, where Craig Evans opened the account on 12 minutes, followed by James Saxon scoring on 45, Anthony Hughes on 72, Steve Kehoe on 83 and Connor Gordon on 86.

Nantlle Vale impressed with a 4-1 show at Llandyrnog United, where the points were ensured by James Thomas with a fifth minute penalty and goals by Simon Kay on 21 minutes, Ashley Owen on 32 and Aled Hughes on 90.

Shaun Davies netted Llandyrnog’s sole reply on 52 minutes, but the home team fired blanks at all other times.

Greenfield beat visitors Llanrug United 2-0, courtesy of a brace of goals from Wayne Edwards, after 15 and 87.

Abergele Town and St Asaph City shared the points in a 1-1 draw in their derby, which involved Danny Abbott netting for the hosts on 15 minutes, and Jake Walker for the visitors on 75.
