BORTH & Ynyslas Golf Club member Zach Galliford has won the Welsh National PGA Championship for the second time in three years.

And the Ross on Wye Golf Club assistant professional did it in thrilling fashion with three birdies on his last seven holes to clinch the title holding off Ross Earnshaw to take a one-shot victory.

Despite Earnshaw making four birdies of his own in the closing stretch the 2016 Amateur Champion rallied after some early bogeys to take the 122-year-old title at Conwy Golf Club regaining the crown he first won in 2024 at Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club.

Galliford began the tournament in formidable form, carding a superb 4-under-par 68 in the opening round to hold the overnight lead from Stuart Runcie, Abergele Golf Club. However, the second and final round proved to be a true test of character.

Three early bogeys through his first seven holes threatened to derail his challenge, but he showed exactly why he is a champion.

A stunning hat-trick of birdies in the final seven holes turned the tide and kept his hopes alive. The pressure intensified as another opponent, Ross Earnshaw from the SR Tykes Golf Academy in York, made four birdies of his own in the closing stretch.

With the match hanging in the balance, Galliford knew he had to produce something special.

After finding a tricky lie off the tee on the 18th, he recovered magnificently to leave himself a 20-foot putt for birdie, which he impressively converted to seal victory again, notching his name on the cup once again alongside such Welsh greats as Ian Woosnam and Ross on Wye man Brian Huggett.

The Welsh National PGA Championship is the premier championship for Welsh golf professionals and one of the oldest professional golf tournaments in Britain.
