KEVIN Davies and navigator Alan James achieved an excellent comeback to complete a hat-trick of wins on Lampeter and District Motor Club’s Rali Bro Caron.

They produced a great drive on the second part of the evening in the red Ford Escort Mk2, to hold off the challenge of Carwyn Davies and Ryan Griffiths in second place and Mark Lennox and Ian Beamond in third, who were also driving Escorts.

Due to snowy conditions affecting the running of Rali Mike Darowen, it was the first round of the Welsh Road Rally Championship, as well as the first round in the club’s own Road Championship.

Once again Marc Hughes took the clerk of the course duties, with approximately 90 miles, using mostly the northern half of OS map 146, with some 130 car entries.

Davies and James had made a confident start, until they reversed back to pick up a code board that they had passed, and unfortunately slid off the road, losing some three minutes trying to regain the road.

They were sportingly towed out by rivals George Williams and Dale Bowen.

At the refuel halt in Aberaeron, Mark Lennox and Ian Beamond held top spot in their Escort with 0:06.36, whilst George Williams and Dale Bowen held second in an Escort with 0:07.04, with Tomos Lewis and Daniel Stone’s Escort third on 0:07.26.

Dewi Davies and Nathan Davies, in a Vauxhall Astra, were fourth, with 0:07.30, and Carwyn Davies and Ryan Griffiths were fifth in the Escort, with 0:07.47.

Davies and James set about working their way back up the leaderboard in the second half of the rally, and they had achieved top spot at the end of the night.

Carwyn Davies and Ryan Griffith climbed to the second position overall, and winning the expert class, with Mark Lennox and Ian Beamond dropping to third overall, winning the masters’ class.
