FIVE Ceredigion athletes returned from the Welsh Schools’ National Track and Field Championships with gold medals.

Three were from Ysgol Bro Pedr, Lampeter, with Meirion Lloyd winning the gold in the Middle Boys’ triple jump with a distance of 12.90m, whilst Beca Roberts won the Middle Girls’ triple jump with 12.90m, and her brother Osian Roberts the Junior Boys’ high jump with 1.70m.

Zara Evans, of Ysgol Henry Richard, Tregaron, won gold in the Junior Girls’ triple jump with 9.92m, and Lili Church, of Ysgol Aberaeron, won the Middle Girls high jump, clearing a height of 1.65m.

Over 500 of Wales’ best school athletes headed to the Cardiff International Sports Stadium in Leckwith for the 72nd edition of the Welsh Schools’ Championships, representing Dyfed, Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff and Vale, Eryri, Glamorgan Valleys, North East, South East and Powys.

The Dyfed team, under senior team manager Hedydd Davies, was made up of the top athletes from Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.
