LAMPETER registered another spectacular eight-try bonus point win in Division Three West B as their young squad triumphed 55-10 against a heavier Llangadog team.

The hosts, however, used this power in the first half with numerous driving mauls towards the Lampeter line, but some heroic defence work continually stopped them from scoring.

Llangadog were first to bag some points with a penalty kick by Dafydd Jenkins, and soon after were awarded a somewhat questionable penalty try after the referee yellow carded Lampeter centre Gethin Davies for allegedly killing the ball on the Lampeter try line, giving Llangadog a 10-0 lead with 10 minutes of the half remaining.

This decision seemed to kick start Lampeter’s fight back, with fullback Rhys Douglas slotting over a penalty.

Lampeter’s left wing Emyr Richards then went on an outrageous run from near the half way line, dancing his way through numerous tackles with hand-offs and dummies to score a try right under the posts, converted then by Douglas to equal the scores.

Visiting captain Daryl Davies wasn’t content with that, and he scored a well worked try on the stroke of half time, with Douglas adding the conversion to take the half time score to 10-17.

Coach Geraint Thomas’s stern words at half time worked wonders in the second half as the Lampeter men played to their strength and style of running rugby crossing for a further six tries.

Tomos Rhys, Gareth Griffiths, Guto Jones, Carwyn Lewis, with a brace, and a second try also for captain Davies took the game away from Llangadog.

Rhys Douglas, Carwyn Lewis and Dion Hughes converted four of the six tries, taking the final score to 10-55.

Meanwhile Pontyates have cancelled this Saturday’s first round Swalec Bowl tie, so Lampeter have a bye to the second round, to be played on Saturday, 7 Ocotber.

Lampeter’s Seconds are at home against Carmarthen Druids, and the Youth team are at home against St Clears.
