BRO FFESTINIOG completed back-to-back league wins against Mold with an 18-13 success in their re-arranged Division One North encounter.

The match went ahead despite the wet conditions, but by half-time both the weather and pitch conditions had settled.

It was the visitors who should have taken the lead within seven minutes of the kick-off, but centre Steve Quentin’s penalty kick fell painfully short from 46m.

Moments later a forward pass on Bro’s try line denied Mold their first try. A chip through by Bro’s Dewi Atherton put Gareth Davies through, but the right wing failed to ground the ball successfully.

The first points came after a penalty for Bro - they opted for a scrum five and four phases later centre Aron Aspden crossed over for an unconverted try in the corner.

The hosts turned defence into attack and pressurised Mold into another penalty, back chat towards the referee gave Bro the extra 10m and this time fly half Huw James slotted over the penalty from 40m.

Bro were then penalised for offside and Quentin successfully kicked the penalty.

The final points of the half came from a turnover by Bro on the half way. Bro recycled quickly to James who chipped over the defence, gathered the ball and a clever short pass put Davies through to score.

James was unable to add the conversion, and he sides went into the break at 13-3

Soon after the re-start Mold drove deep into Bro’s 22, and they rucked and mauled towards the try line, and after five phases the ball was spread out to Quentin, who scored and converted the try, which put the visitors very much back in the match.

James almost extended Bro’s lead but his penalty from 35m hit the near side post.

The hosts, however, sealed the victory through an unconverted try from scrum half Aron Roberts, although Quentin’s penalty kick with only a few minutes left gave Mold a losing bonus point - but Bro defended well and held on for the win.

Bro entertain Caernarfon this weekend, and having beaten them 16-20 at Y Morfa for the first time in years earlier this season, and swapping league positions this week, the Cofis will be out for revenge.

Then on 21 April Bro entertain Llangefni and have their annual dinner that evening with former Wales and British and Irish Lion Colin Charvis the guest speaker.
