BRO FFESTINIOG secured their place in Division One North next season with an emphatic 64-12 win against visitors Llangefni last weekend.
The hosts went over for 10 tries in total, while Cefni could only manage two in reply in the final minutes of the match.
In glorious weather at Cae Dolawel Ffestiniog were out of the blocks quickly and the early pressure soon turned into points through an unconverted try which was scored by left wing Dewi Atherton.
Following a scrum for Bro Ffestiniog inside Cefni’s 22, the ball was sent out to the backs and centre Marc Morris was unstoppable, crashing through three tacklers and scoring under the posts. Wing Gareth Davies added the conversion.
Davies was also involved in the next try when gathering a clever chip over the defence from scrum half Aron Roberts before setting up number 8 Dewi James to run through and score under the posts, with Davies duly adding the conversion.
The bonus point try came soon after, with cousins Tom and Dewi James combing well into the opponents 22 and in support was Davies who ran through to cross for an unconverted try in the corner.
Bro Ffestiniog’s second row Dylan Daniels then stole turnover ball and a reverse pass to Aron Roberts saw the scrum half crossing over for an unconverted try.
It was all Bro throughout the first half as Cefni could hardly get their hands on the ball and seldom got out of their half.
The final try of the first period came from a line-out as Dewi James strolled through to score, with Davies converting.
The sides went into the half-time break with the hosts comfortably leading 36-0.
Bro Ffestiniog continued their relentless pressure from the restart, and a grubber kick towards Cefni’s try line was fumbled and Daniels pounced on the ball to score, with Davies successfully converting.
Another dropped ball from Cefni on their own 10 metre line was gathered by full back Mathew Hayden who ran in unopposed, with Davies converting again.
Bro Ffestiniog’s offensive pressure once more gave them turnover ball for Ian Roberts, who passed to substitute flanker Dyfed Parry to score the try. Hayden duly added the conversion this time.
Bro Ffestiniog’s final try came from a break by Ian Roberts, who combined with Dewi James before offloading to Daniels to claim his second try of the afternoon, which scrum half Roberts converted,
With the score at 64-0 Bro took their foot off the pedal and Cefni were gifted two tries in quick succession, including one for prop Mathew Thomas and the other for scrum half Ed Williams, with full back Rhys Hughes converting both tries.
Bro Ffestiniog had completely dominated the match for 70 minutes, but they will have a tougher match against Bala next.
