On a glorious afternoon, the visitors started brightly, and came close to scoring from the kick-off. However they did succeed in taking the lead after three minutes, as stand-off Henry Morris put over his penalty kick.
It did not take long for Dolgellau to respond, however, when centre Henri Roberts went over wide on the left for a try that he duly converted from a difficult angle to make the score 7-3.
Going into second quarter, Dolgellau flanker Rob Lewis started and finished a move with the assistance of second row Carwyn Hughes.
Henri Roberts was accurate again with the conversion to make the score 14-3.
In the last minute of the half, from quickly taken tap penalty by scrum half Lewis Jones, hooker, Eon Williams forced his way over in the right corner flag. Henri Roberts put over the conversion from the touchline to give them a 21-3 half-time lead.
Stalwart No 8 Dylan Llewelyn crossed for Dolgellau’s fourth try after six minutes for a 28-3 lead, with Roberts’ fourth conversion.
Bay made life difficult, with flanker Harry Jones outstanding, but Dolgellau rammed home their superiority with two well-taken opportunist scores by scrum half Lewis Jones, both from scrums, and with the assistance of No 8 Llewelyn.
Henri Roberts kept up his 100 per cent record with the boot by converting both.
The best was kept to last, as Dolgellau ran from deep, with second row Marius Jones and hooker Eon Williams finding No 8 Dylan Llewelyn to finish off the move in style. Roberts’ perfect record and seventh conversion made the score 49-3.
The match was sponsored by players from Aberystwyth RFC in memory of Aled Evans, who played for both clubs, to mark the 10th anniversary of his passing, and the proceeds from match collections will go towards the North Wales Air Ambulance. The sizable crowd was boosted by representation from Aberystwyth RFC as well as the family and friends of Aled.
