DOLGELLAU eased into the draw for the third round of the third tier national Swalec Bowl with a dominant 45-3 home win over Bangor last weekend.

The victory was thanks in the main to their overall dominance and a haul of five tries in the opening 25 minutes which effectively killed off this encounter.

The Blues took the lead after eight minutes, with a try created and scored by wing Rhys Lewis, with the assistance of stand-off Eben Jones. Wing Jake Hinge added the conversion to make it 7-0.

Six minutes later, Dolgellau marched on from a five metre line-out, and prop Dewi Puw emerged from the resulting drive for the try, that made the scoreline 12-0.

Dolgellau then hit a purple patch going into the second quarter of the match, and scored three tries within five minutes.

Wing Dafydd Ellis’ run along left touch saw hooker Celt Lewis feed centre Gareth Hughes to burst through for the try, and Jake Hinge was accurate with the extras.

Within two minutes the winger added his third conversion, of Gareth Hughes’ second try of the match, after he latched on to a sweet inside pass from outstanding flanker, Cellan Evans, to make it 26-0.

A minute later Dolgellau wing Dafydd Ellis’ pace up the left side found the visiting defence wanting, and duly gathered his own chip ahead to score wide out.

At 31-0, the match already looked to be over as a contest, after just 25 minutes.

Bangor then enjoyed a period of pressure and scored a well-worked try themselves with centre Calvin Williams surging through to the right of the posts. Stand-off Henri Williams’ conversion was narrowly wide, leaving the score at 31-5 with five minutes of the half to go.

Their joy was shortlived, however, as Dolgellau then scored their sixth try of the match, with a minute remaining. Dafydd Ellis’ meandering break found stand-off Eben Jones to finish off in style, and make the score 36-5 at the interval.

Early in the second period, Dolgellau ran a quick tap penalty, and replacement Jack Kelly’s long pass found speedy winger Jake Hinge to score a try, which he duly converted to open up a 43-5 lead.

To their credit, Bangor dominated the rest of the match, but the closest they came to scoring was a disallowed effort by second row Shaun Kelly, as referee Dylan Davies spotted an infringement just as the Bangor pack were driving over.
