PWLLHELI maintained their title push with a good win against a hard-working Dolgellau side in midweek, with their five tries crucially securing a bonus point.

They achieved what they came for, but they were made to sweat right up to the last 10 minutes of the match to score their fourth try by Dolgellau, who defended heroically for most of this match.

Dolgellau’s survival now hangs by the slimmest of threads, with a near impossible task of needing bonus point wins in their last three matches. Pwllheli need to do the same if they are to win the league.

Pwllheli took the lead after four minutes, second row Huw Williams charging down a clearance to score near the posts.

Wing Osian Parry Jones put over the conversion to put the Llyn men 7-0 ahead.

Dolgellau pulled back a penalty from wing Dion Jones, but went down to 14 men as full back Dylan Evans was harshly penalised for an alleged spear tackle.

The closest Dolgellau came to scoring was through centre Jac Roberts, who was held up well short of the line. For the rest of the half Dolgellau held on bravely, and the first half ended with the score 3-7.

Four minutes into the second half Pwllheli scored their second try, again second row Huw Williams involved, with wing Osian Parry Jones crossing wide out. He duly added the conversion to make it 3-14.

Dolgellau were now soaking up so much pressure, and received a second yellow to second row Carwyn Hughes after a series of infringements. Pwllheli capitalised and scored their third through second row, Williams crossing for his second try after 24 minutes of the half. Jones then added the conversion to make the score 3-21.

Going into the last 10 minutes, Pwllheli scored their fourth try, with wing Jones again crossing for his second of the match, and clinching the critical bonus point.

There was still more to come as wing Robin Hughes Jones crossed for their fifth try with two minutes left and Jones added the conversion to make the score 3-33.
